Socialists are moving immediately to squeeze Gov. Kathy Hochul on taxes — even as political insiders argue her re-election on Tuesday was owed more to anti-Trump backlash than to a surging left-wing in the Empire State.
The Democratic Socialists of America’s New York City chapter — which saw a record-number of its members win election to the state Legislature — will turn up the heat on Hochul over hiking taxes on the wealthy and other issues, including expanding free childcare and raising the minimum wage.
“I’m hopeful that Hochul has seen the energy, the excitement that can come from the masses of people who want and deserve a better government, and she takes those lessons and brings them to Albany, and is braver than she has been in past years in terms of standing up for working class New Yorkers,” NYC-DSA co-chair Grace Mauser told The City Reporter on Wednesday.
Jasmine Gripper, co-executive director of the lefty Working Families Party, echoed the NYC-DSA’s demands, telling the outlet it would take the fight to Albany during the upcoming budget season.
“We will only accept a budget that is equitable and taxes the ultra-rich so that working families can thrive and children have what they need,” Gripper said.
Hochul ran on the WFP line in addition to being the Democratic standard-bearer, but was never endorsed by the NYC-DSA, which has long needled her to “tax the rich.”
The far-left group even broke with its de-facto leader Mayor Zohran Mamdani after he endorsed Hochul’s re-election bid, accusing her of siding “with her billionaire donors while offering working class New Yorkers crumbs.”

I’m old enough to remember when a Democrat would tell the radicals to pound sand, such as Clinton’s Sister Souljah Moment.
“The Rich” needs to arm themselves and be ready when the communist pigs come to rob them. Leave the thieving bass turds in piles of dead meat.

NY is losing rich people like crazy.
Those that are foolish enough to stay will get financially raped over and over again.
Then they will all be gone and she will have to tax the crap out of the not so rich until they leave.
Then she will have to tax the crap out of the poor who can’t pay.
Then the state will go broke.
If I were a billionaire I wouldn’t be too worried. Prop 40 (the “one-time” billionaires tax) is likely to fail here in Commiefornia. If they can’t sell California of all places on a wealth tax, why would the rest of the country be more gullible?

Alliance Bernstein, Citadel, JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs... And the millionaires are bailing rapidly.
“In New York, the top 1% of earners pay about 45% of all state income taxes in any given year, so New York’s revenue is very reliant on high earners to stay in New York, and that has been a challenge in recent years,” said Jared Walczak, an economist and senior fellow at the Tax Foundation think tank. The Empire State’s share of the nation’s millionaires dipped from 12.7% to 8.7% between 2010 and 2022. And that has not slowed as Florida and Texas are receiving the money folks seeking asylum at a continuing rate. And with the transformation of Texas, maybe Florida needs to build a wall to keep out the people going after the money folks.

It’s going to be interesting over the next 2 years, not even 24 hours after the election and the socialists want blood money and they mean business this time.
By the time they finish with NYC, it will be like the Snake Plisken movie, Escape from New York.
Problem is, they are running out of places to escape to, Texas is gone.
When the Squad came to the House of Representatives, Speaker Pelosi, who had a strong political machine, could have squashed them like bugs. (We would have been so much better today).
But she caved, thinking it would expand the Democrat base.
And so here we are today with DSA.
Democrat leaders who do not squash these radicals in order to save face with them will soon learn that DSA doesn’t care and will stab them in the back at the soonest opportunity.

An open border is not popular with the public even the Latino community, if the new Governor of Texas attempts to turn Texas into a Sanctuary state, she will be out in 4 years.
No state income taxes is written into the Texas constitution, the state legislature is still Republican.
Democrats can’t help themselves, they will seek revenge and retribution and “social justice”, most of their ideas are not popular, the Republicans lost because they went against many of the things they promised to do.
The overwhelming thing is the war in Iran, the public wants nothing to do with that and every time the public drives by a gas station and sees $4-5/gallon gas or $6-7/gallon diesel, they get pissed and took it out on Republicans.
The rich in NY will move to Florida, the Carolinas, or Texas. Once relocated they will continue to fund progressive organizations and vote for Democrats. Their children and grandchildren children will enjoy living off the trust funds their parents established for them and will direct the charitable foundations their parents set up to fund extreme leftist NGO’s dedicated to the destruction of the United States.
Look at the history of the Rockefeller, Ford, and Carnegie foundations which were set up by conservative titans of industry and today fund leftist causes around the planet. Carnegie established his foundation to build and support public libraries across the nation. It hasn’t built a public library since the 1950’s. It’s liberal directors changed its mission.
These unaccountable, self perpetuating, private non profits foundations, spend billions every year supporting the progressive movement. It is long past time to remove non profit status from the tax code. Why should the taxpayer subsidize organizations spending billions every year to destroy western civilization by exempting them from taxation? Let the Tides Foundation, controlled by George Soros pay a 50% tax on the investment earnings of his foundation. While we are at it, why not have a sunset clause requiring foundations to spend all their funds within 20 years of founding and only for the explicit purposes described in the charter.
Does any GOP politician have the backbone to turn the tables on the politics of envy by going after the private non profits funding the left?
