CNN Data Analyst Harry Enten Projects Democratic Gains In Final 2026 Midterm Forecast

CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten released his final statistical model for the 2026 midterm elections on Saturday, projecting favorable national environments for Democratic candidates across the U.S. House, Senate, and state gubernatorial races.

Enten based his projections on an aggregate of nonpartisan race ratings, generic congressional polling averages, primary voter turnout data, and predictive market models.

According to Enten’s analysis of national generic ballot polling, Democrats held a 9-point advantage heading into the final days of the campaign, widening from a 5-point lead recorded a year earlier and a 6-point edge over the summer. He noted that while GOP redistricting established higher thresholds for seat pickups, historical voting patterns suggest Democrats need an approximate 4-point national popular vote margin to secure a House majority.
