“You are White-Presenting”: Texas Judge Ordered to Undergo Psychiatric Testing After Bar Complaint
Jonathan Turley ^ | 30 October 2026 | Jonathan Turley

Judge Ada Brown of the Northern District of Texas has been suspended pending psychiatric testing and the resolution of a bar complaint after a bizarre hearing in April 2026. In the hearing, Brown, a Trump appointee, went on a racial diatribe against a lawyer, Ezra Young, over his race. Young was accused of being White. When Young informed her that he is Hispanic, Judge Brown went on to say that he is “white-presenting” in continuing her racial browbeating.

Judge Brown was also accused of abandoning her work, but the hearing has caused the most chatter among lawyers.

Young filed a complaint against Brown following the hearing in Dallas. In the hearing, Brown, a Black woman with Native American ancestry, accused Young of mistreating Black attorneys. She barred Young from practicing in her courtroom after an unhinged tongue-lashing.

It appears Young, a Columbia Law School graduate and solo practitioner, has had previous run-ins with Judge Brown. At the hearing, Brown accused Young of “racial bullying” toward Black attorneys in the case.

“Hispanic” is not a race. It’s a linguistic grouping referring to Spanish speaking people.

She's a Trump nominee from 2019.

She's a triple token; Native American, black, and female.

She's also a dual citizen of the United States and the Choctaw nation yet sitting on a Federal bench.

And all in Texas no less.

I snagged a couple comments from legal insurection

It could be the lawyer playing the victim. Ezra Young has publicly identified himself as a “Latino, transgender, bisexual man.”

Formerly, was a visiting assistant professor at Cornell Law School where he taught Critical Race Theory, and Transgender People and the Law.

He is a member of the National Trans Bar Association and Transgender Legal Defense Fund.

Ezra Young’s primary focus is advancing and expanding racial justice & gender equality.

He’s board secretary of African American Policy Forum focusing on racial justice that embraces the intersections of race, gender, class, and the array of barriers that disempower those who are marginalized in society.

another comment from legal insurrection:

The objective reading of the transcript shows that this was part of a “show cause” hearing in which Judge Brown wanted New York lawyer Ezra Young should not be held in contempt for violating an order from the court not to post online sealed documents.

He did.

She showed him the documents online on his website in real time during court.

Young was in Texas helping on a case (several cases actually) where he was working under “pro hoc vice,” which is where he is not a member of the local bar, but was working under the supervision of a lawyer who was.

The ability for Young to work in that manner was pulled after he continually made complaints about black lawyers in writing and also posting attorney-client privileged information.

Young tried to weasel out of the sanction and show cause by essentially saying he has autism and could not understand the Court’s order. He also played the race card essentially by saying he works / consults with the “African American Policy Forum,” so he could not hate black lawyers.

It really does appear that Young brought race into the court, his filings, and his lack of accountability for going against the Court orders.

That being said, Judge Brown should have just ignored the racist part of his defense and actions and focused on the actions themselves. She continued to allow race to stay in play.

Then again, it has to be tough when people are attacking others based on their race and not comment or address those accusations by the other person.

Brown overstepped, but at the same time, Ezra Young should be facing discipline as well.

Kinda makes you wonder. And before that, Gov Abbott put her on the state bench

Based on several of the previous posts, it would appear there is no good guy/gal in this courtroom kerfuffle.

At the hearing, Brown accused Young of “racial bullying” toward Black attorneys in the case.

Translation: Young beat them in court.

And all in Texas no less.

I've been watching it up close in Texas for the eight years we've been here. I gather it will not be too many more election cycles before the state veers left of center, in part because of the RINOs.

Hell, the state's death spiral may be in full force a week from now with Senator-elect Talarico. For us, the Paxton campaign has been non-existent. Given the choice between a non-existent GOP campaign and Cornyn, I would have wished for a 3rd choice for the GOP.

When I was in college back in the 1980s, one of the things that showed South Africa had a bad regime was their tendency to multiply racial categories.

Just sayin'.

Wow, what a matchup!

In this corner, Federal Judge: Native American, black, female, dual citizen USA & Choctaw Nation, Texan.

And in the other corner, lawyer: Latino, transgender, bisexual man, assistant professor of "Critical Race Theory, and Transgender People and the Law," member of the National Trans Bar Association and Transgender Legal Defense Fund; Board Secretary of African American Policy Forum. Focused on racial justice that embraces the intersections of race, gender, class, and the array of barriers that disempower those who are marginalized in society.

Up until 1927 when the demon-rats changed it, Hispanics where identified as white on birth certificates.

Why can’t we get rid of socialist judges, appointed by Democrats, the same way?

Is that due to the influx from California?

Is that due to the influx from California?

I can't say for sure. My wife and I are from California and have voted straight-line GOP since our arrival in 2018. The exit polls in 2018 for Cruz-Beto were enlightening, and not in a good way.

Native Texans voted 51-48% for Beto, and transplant Texans voted 57-42% for Cruz. Based on that analysis, left to the Native Texans, Texas would be left of center already.
