Left-wing streaming personality Hasan Piker sued conservative commentator Scott Jennings on Tuesday, seeking at least $72.5 million over accusations that he supported lynching black Americans.
The complaint, filed October 27 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, requests at least $27.5 million in compensatory damages and $45 million in punitive damages. Piker also demanded a jury trial.
The lawsuit concerns an August 11 broadcast of The Scott Jennings Show and subsequent social media posts. Piker alleges that Jennings used edited livestream footage and added a fabricated quotation to portray sarcastic remarks as support for racial violence. The complaint says:
Mr. Jennings did not merely mischaracterize something Mr. Piker said. He took a false, fabricated, and manipulated video of Mr. Piker, added a made-up quotation that Mr. Piker never uttered, and then made accusations that went beyond even what the manipulated footage purported to show. Mr. Jennings presented those accusations as fact, telling his viewers to “[l]isten for yourself” about Mr. Piker, knowing that he was playing a falsified video of Mr. Piker for those viewers, and completely disregarding the truth of Mr. Piker’s actual words.
The distinction matters. Mr. Jennings was free to criticize Mr. Piker, to condemn his political positions, or to argue that his commentary was offensive. Mr. Jennings was also free to play Mr. Piker’s actual words, and provide his own commentary on what Mr. Piker actually said. Mr. Jennings was not free to do what he did: knowingly attribute to Mr. Piker statements that Mr. Piker never made, and then present those invented statements as evidence that Mr. Piker supports the racially motivated murder of Black Americans.
The dispute stems partly from an October 29, 2024, Twitch broadcast in which Piker watched two black political commentators debate criminal justice policy.

Piker is a racist, socialist, pseudo-intellectual animal abuser with some 12 years of verbal diarrhea all archived forever on the internet. Something tells me Jennings will do just fine.
I’m sure it was just parody.
No. The bar is *WAY* higher for public figures. Jennings isn’t a public figure.

From what I read (I did not read the actual complaint), it looks like Piker’s claim relies pretty on saying that Scott Jennings added the words, “Let’s go back a better time when lynchings were happening,” **AND** attributing the words to Piker. Perhaps Jennings did. And that might be defamation. But without seeing the video, I can’t tell if Jennings attributed the words to Piker or not, or if it’s ambiguous. Simply adding those words doesn’t mean you’re attributing them to Piker. It your sarcastic summary comment on the video you’ve put together.
Without seeing the video, it’s hard to guess.
Couldn’t the families of every one of the 3000+ victims that died on 9-11 sue Piker for millions based on his claim that they deserved it??
And exactly how was he damaged to the tune of 70 million dollars.
OK - I looked at the filing. It’s interesting. Yes. Scott Jennings *did* put up an image of Piker attributing the literal words, “Let’s go back a better time when lynchings were happening,” to Piker. But here’s the kicker. Piker *literally* said those words. When Piker said them he was quoting someone ELSE who said them and they don’t appear to be Piker’s stated position at all, but Piker *DID* literally say the words.
I think this gets settled with Jennings having to make a statement that his quote was misleading. I can’t imagine it going any further than that.
re: Jennings isn’t a public figure.
<<>>
How is “public figure” defined ~ aren’t Jennings broadcasts seen by millions every day?
Typical libtard projection.
Accuse others of using your own well worn play book.
I think the question is whether the alleged defamatory statements concerned a public figure?
Lefties like him claim MAGA people who wish for “the good ole days” actually want black lynchings.
Gotta prove malice??
Yep. They don’t hesitate to take “very fine people” out of context and swear up and down that Trump loves Nazis, or whatever.
Piker was hoping for a remark from anybody so he sue them for a life long pay check it’s a gig the slackers have been playing for years.
Yes, he is.
My question about Piker and his ilk is, “Who’s bankrolling him”.
