Texas Early Voting Surges 50% From 2022
Newsmax ^ | Tuesday, 27 October 2026 | Charlie McCarthy

Early voting in Texas is up about 50% compared with the same point in the 2022 midterm elections, with particularly strong participation among voters with Democratic primary histories, The Texas Tribune reported Tuesday.

Nearly 4.5 million Texans cast ballots during the first seven days of early voting, representing 23.4% of registered voters, according to Texas secretary of state figures cited by The Texas Tribune.

The surge comes as Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton faces Democrat state Rep. James Talarico in a closely contested U.S. Senate race that could help determine control of the chamber.

Texas Democrats hope to win their first statewide election since 1994, while Republicans expect strong turnout from their voters before the Nov. 3 election.

Counties that supported former Vice President Kamala Harris by at least 20 percentage points in 2024 have already reached 97% of their early-voting totals from the same point in that year's presidential election, according to CNN.

By comparison, counties that backed President Donald Trump by similar margins have reached 72% of their early-voting totals from the same point in 2024.

An analysis by Republican consultant Derek Ryan found that voters with Democrat primary histories accounted for 35% of early ballots, compared with 33% for those with Republican primary histories, The Texas Tribune reported.

"This is actually new territory," Ryan said, noting that Republicans have traditionally dominated early voting in recent elections.

However, Republican strategist Vinny Minchillo cautioned against assuming the apparent Democrat enthusiasm advantage would translate into victory.

"After the first or second day of early voting, you've seen Republicans getting out," Minchillo said. "So I have to say on behalf of Republicans everywhere, I am cautiously optimistic."

I voted yesterday in Valley Ranch/Irving, at about 10:30. There was no wait and the parking lot was less than 1/4 full. On the last page of 4 there was a list of positions that were unopposed. Since all of them were Democrat, I punched the “Vote for None”. I know it was a meaningless gesture, but it made me chuckle.

I wouldn’t worry about it. Dallas County is solidly blue. It turns red when you enter Collin County. I think Tarrant County is purple although Fort Worth is leaning Democrat. The further away you get from Dallas County, the redder it gets. The immigration from California and New York has not been helpful to Republicans, though.

On one hand it’s good, on the other it gives the dems a better idea of the number they have to steal it by.

Obama has described Donald Trump’s election rhetoric as dangerous on multiple occasions:

• 2016 Campaign: During a campaign rally in Miami for Hillary Clinton, Obama called Trump’s refusal to state whether he would accept the 2016 election results “dangerous,” stating it undermined American democracy.

• 2020 Democratic National Convention: Obama assailed Trump during his DNC speech as “dangerous, corrupt, inept, and a threat to democracy,” stating that Trump never took the job seriously and unleashed the country’s worst impulses.

• 2024 Democratic National Convention / Campaign: Obama again described Trump as “dangerous” while supporting Kamala Harris, noting that Trump sees power as a means to his own ends.

• 2026 Midterm Campaigns: Obama criticized Trump and his administration during October 2026 campaign events, warning voters about a “dangerous moment” under Trump and the ruling party regarding democratic rules, norms, and policies.

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who is running for re-election, appeared on the Mark Davis radio show yesterday morning.

Patrick said Democrats are performing well in early voting, but only slightly better than Republicans, if at all. He predicted Republicans would pull ahead as their high-propensity voters cast ballots. According to Patrick, most high-propensity Democratic voters have already voted, while Republicans hold a significant advantage among high-propensity voters who have yet to vote.

Patrick also said Republicans’ strong advantage in rural Texas counties would likely overcome Democrats’ lead. He attributed lower early-voting participation in rural areas to the limited number of polling locations. Some voters would have to drive about 20 miles to vote early, so they prefer to wait until more locations open closer to home.

Dan Patrick’s 2024 predictions were spot-on. He forecast an easy, double-digit Trump victory in Texas, well beyond pollsters’ projections. He clearly understands Texas and its voting patterns.

I voted early afternoon yesterday in West Fort Worth. The line was longer than expected at the small-town library polling place. It took about 40 minutes to finally get to vote.

I am amazed. I receive a mailbox full of politician mailing until two days after I voted early. I have not receive a single political mailer since. I suspect the campaigns check who voted and stop wasting money on mailers to those who have already voted.

What that means is those who don’t vote need more than an ad in their mailbox. What’s needed is a phone call and then a followup visit to their home. I’m not a door knocker but if the county GOP knows who DOESN’T vote and they’re not doing outreach we don’t deserve to win. Democrats are more active but they’re paid-most of them.
