All conservatives wish that Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins leaned more to the right, but the fact is that Collins represents a purple state and has survived in Washington so long by being a moderate. In a time when communists are openly seizing control of the Democrat Party, the moderate Republican will obviously and always be the better choice.
Another fact about Collins that makes her a political survivor is that she can be absolutely ruthless when she wants or needs to be.
Last night's first Senate debate between Collins and her Democrat opponent Graham Plat ... err, we mean Troy Jackson ... was one of those times.
While much of the debate commentary has focused on Jackson's many missteps — declaring that ID should not be required to vote, claiming that asking him about Israel was "unfair," and trying to fend off even the moderator calling him out for corruption involving his son — Collins had one moment when she brutally obliterated Jackson by pointing out how he can't even garner the support of his own party, let alone work across the aisle.
And she slays her opponents so politely. Watch:

"Ouch" might be the understatement of the night.
It was devastating for Jackson, as even the post-debate media commentators agreed.

OOF!
That's gonna leave a mark, as Collins clearly did.

She sounds like she’s about to croak.
I love when Conservatives use simple understandable facts against libtards.
It isn’t hard....Collins just nailed it. As weak as she is, her team did some easy digging to show this clown is a lightweight.
Well done.
She has suffered from Essential Tremors for decades. Similar to Parkinson’s Disease.
And she asked it so ladylike and matter of fact. He is toast.
I saw that. She knows her stuff. Too bad freepers don’t like her.
Today will be the Iowa senate debate. Should be 4pm PST.
Tomorrow’s(not sure) the big one in Michigan. Al-Sayed is the big foot-in-the-door not just for the left. It’s for the radical muslims who seek to open the floodgates. Too many polls have the rats winning most races. 25 years after 911 NY has a muslim mayor. Go figure.
What is it with a lot of these women politicians—they often sound like they are on the verge of tears. Collins, Warren, Huchol.(sp)—they all sound weepy. It’s annoying. I don’t know how anyone can listen to that.
Agreed. She looked like the innocent Tweedy bird doing a guilt trip on Sylvester the cat.
I’m one of those strange FR posters who actually is happy that Susan Collins is the Senator from Maine. She is called a “RINO” here all the time but she is as good as we are going to get in Maine and she is a really good politician and really good in a debate. This last debate is a good example of her skill.
What did she ask? I am not in a place where I can watch a video. Thanks.
Collins looks like a corpse, in the race for Queen of the RINOs (with King of the RINOs John Sununu running for an open seat next door) - Platner would have creamed her easily, but for obscure reasons he was replaced by this loser Jackson.
GOP may skate again.
As the ONLY elected Republican in both chambers of Congress from the whole New England, she surely knows how to get elected in hostile environment.
Weird post. Platner was a terrible candidate.
She would have beaten Platner like a red headed stepchild. He was a buffoon and a fraud, and even more of a lightweight than this clown Jackson who she just blackjacked. A lot of politicians have underestimated Collins at their peril.
After listing his failures as Senate President in the Maine legislature, nearly a hundred bills vetoed by their past governors, and his failure to get any support for his bills in committee and his failure to get elected as governor in the last election, she asked:
“If you cannot find EVEN ONE DEMOCRAT OF YOUR OWN PARTY TO SUPPORT YOUR BILLS HOW WILL YOU FUNCTION IN A CLOSELY DIVIDED SENATE IN WASHINGTON?”
Thanks. Wow. That’s pretty powerful stuff. Calling the guy a loser without calling him a loser.
Platner went from plus 7 to minus 3 after his ex girl friend accused him of sexual assault and most of the people who endorsed him revoked those endorsements and recommended he drop out.
And smiling and being really nice at the same time..........
Lets face it, New England is the most GOP hostile area of the USA.
Ca, NYS, OR, WA are more publicized, but there are Republicans elected from these states.
New England, just Susan.
One has to admire her just for these skills.
