This is big. Through this executive order President Trump is defining fraud, corruption and abuse within the H1B visa system as a “national security threat.” That designation gives DHS and State Dept officials an elevated power-set to immediately introduce corrective action.

The entire H1B visa system is a "national security threat".

It cannot be fixed. That system must be abolished.

And send all of those H1B people back to their home countries. They cannot stay here.

Back in the "Dot Com" days when I had my own tech company I would alternate between hiring offshore and onshore. I basically used the additional profits from the offshore people (who I still hired for much more than major corps would pay them) to enable to me onboard an onshore person. It was a good mix.

My offshore folks were in Argentina. They actually had as good a command of English as my US people.

I didn't consider hiring offshore to be anti-American - it was just a matter of being able to compete. Also, during the Clinton years, I thought it might be a good idea to have some offshore connections.

The Argentinians were a wonderful group of people. They had an interesting culture that we would do well to borrow from.

Indian private universities......most notably Manav Bharti University......were found to have sold tens of thousands of fake degrees, which law enforcement authorities and reports suggest were sometimes used by individuals attempting to submit fraudulent credentials for overseas work programs, including U.S. H-1B visas.

The Manav Bharti University Scandal----Fake Degrees Sold: Investigations by Indian law enforcement revealed that Manav Bharti University (located in Himachal Pradesh, India) allegedly sold over 36,000 fake degree certificates over a span of years.

Investigators found that bogus academic credentials from the school were sold for as little as $1,400. Sweeping crackdowns on counterfeit academic networks in India led to the seizure of nearly 100,000 forged certificates across multiple unregulated or compromised institutions.

Local Forgery Markets----Hyderabad Hubs: Reports and statements from former U.S. consular officials highlighted local commercial districts—such as Ameerpet in Hyderabad—as hotspots where shadow consultancies allegedly offered forged educational certificates, fake employment verification letters, and tailored interview coaching to bypass screening.

============================================

Media segments and viral social media claims (such as reports citing a former consular officer) asserted that 80% to 90% of all Indian H-1B visa applications contained fraudulent credentials.

While localized degree scams and corrupt consulting rings are real and actively targeted by law enforcement, the majority of the H-1B program from India are built on fake university credentials.

So abolish H1-B or at least put a complete pause on it for five years. Does that require Congressional approval or can Trump do it with an EO?

When we have so many American white collar workers laid off, it's ridiculous to import people to do those jobs.

Well stated. I agree 100%. But will the politicians be willing to buck the lobbyists (with all their campaign cash) representing the H1B industry?

Thanks for the post. I'm wondering if many in the Government knew of the fraud but couldn't act on it until the investigation in India revealed the extent of it.

And I also wonder how much economic damage was done because companies hired people with fake degrees who couldn't do even the basic tasks the degrees were supposed to have qualified the person for. Not to mention the economic harm that has been done to American workers who were let go in order to hire the fraudsters. What a disgrace.

No, they won't.

Which is why they must be removed from office.

They have infiltrated local, state and federal agencies. They have stolen data and sent it overseas. At the agency I worked at, they faked out their location and worked from overseas. I raised the issue and was TERMINATED.

No matter what “pure free marketeers” say there needs to be guardrails. Offshoring needed to be nixed in the bud.
