Cardinals Player Fined for Writing ‘Glory Be 2 God’ on His Eye Black

The NFL not only allows but also supports writing slogans unrelated to football in its end zones. But the league has a major problem with allowing players to write their own slogans on their eye black.

Arizona Cardinals cornerback Kei’Trei Clark was fined “6,651 for writing “Glory Be 2 God” on his eye black, violating the league’s rules about not wearing or displaying personal messages either in writing or via illustration on game day.

Clark’s message also included a peace symbol between the “Be” and “2.”

“During the Arizona Cardinals-Los Angeles Rams game on September 13, 2026, you were in violation of the NFL Uniform and Equipment Rules,” the league’s letter to Clark read.

“Specifically, you displayed a personal message on your eyeblack. Rule 5, Section 4, Article 8, Item () of the 2026 Official Playing Rules of the National Football League states that, “throughout the period on game day that a player is visible to the stadium and television audience (including in pregame warm-ups, in the bench area, and during postgame interviews in the locker room or on the field), players are prohibited from wearing, displaying, or otherwise conveying personal messages either in writing or illustration, unless such message has been approved in advance by the League office.”

Clark’s $1,197,150 cap number can certainly sustain the fine. Under CBA rules, the league cannot fine a player more than 10 percent of his individual per-game salary-cap charge.

The Cardinals corner posted a thinking emoji and a pic of Spider-Man thinking on his Instagram account, indicating his confusion over the fine. Though ultimately, he seemed at peace with it.

“I got to report to God at the end of my days on the day of judgment!” he wrote. “I’ll always give God the Glory and out loud.

“All good.”

He was fined 6,651?

I guess they figured it would be too obvious if they fined him $666 so they did 66(5+1) instead.

If Clark had eye black that was inscribed "Black Lives Matter", "Choose Love", or whatever other sayings the League has authorized to be printed on the rear padding on the players' helmets, he'd be $6651 richer.

Since the ruling states that any personal messages need to be pre-authorized, Clark - or his agent - should petition the league to have the message on his eye black approved for any future games.

If rejected, and if the ACLU weren't such a leftist organization, one of their attorneys would be drooling at the opportunity to take on the NFL for a freedom of speech violation.

Render unto Ceasar...

If the rule say don’t do this then that’s the rules.

Just a confirmation to me that the NFL has killed football.

People in public or on the job who feel the need to advertise their religious/spiritual beliefs make me nervous. I dont care what deity they’re canvassing for or are trying to gain favor with. Shut up and move the ball.

How about a t-shirt underneath that says ‘CHOOSE LIFE’? Take off the jerseys and shoulder pads when the game’s over. Walk around the field waiting to be interviewed.

It has nothing to do with the message and everything to do with the fact that this guy is paid $1.2M per game to be a circus animal and a billboard for the NFL — which means he must do whatever the circus promoter tells him to do.

I hate the NFL but they are consistent here. They fined a Free Palestine Guy for the same thing.

He got fined also. The NFL is at least consistent on this issue.

Nobody on this thread is seeing the significance of the fine amount.

What’s significant is the player is marginal and will be a free agent next year, putting in jeopardy his employment next year. It will have an effect on his suitors. What it means is he’s got balls.
