Seattle Interim Police Chief Andre Sayles raised eyebrows on Monday by using the term “trigger-pullers” instead of calling violent criminals “shooters.”
Sayles’ sanitized choice of words smacks of his boss Mayor Katie Wilson’s own soft-on-crime, leftist attitudes.
“Working with business owners, increasing patrols, bike patrols, working with our community response group and our gun violence reduction unit as well, looking at ways to where we can identify individuals that are known — we call them trigger pullers in our community,” Sayles said. “Identifying them, making sure that we’re putting cases on those individuals, working with King County Prosecutor’s Office to bring these individuals to justice because the families that lost loved ones throughout this year and years past deserve justice in this manner.”
Sayles’ delicate terminology sounds like it came straight from the playbook of Wilson, the activist mayor who once advocated for completely disbanding the Seattle Police Department and building a future “entirely without SPD.”
While violent criminals run wild in the streets, Wilson’s administration seems far more focused on policing words and coddling Left-wing ideology than backing cops. Seattle has been rocked by bloodshed, including a mass shooting in July at the Bite of Seattle food festival that left two innocent bystanders dead and four wounded, including a toddler. Yet, instead of giving officers the aggressive support they need, Wilson ousted former Police Chief Shon Barnes and replaced him with Sayles.
Seattle Police Officers Guild President Kent Loux hasn’t held back, repeatedly slamming Wilson’s dangerous priorities. Earlier this year, City Hall tried to bully the union into deleting a social media post that exposed a bloody triple shooting outside a nightclub, claiming the cops leaked sensitive footage. The union stood its ground with a cease-and-desist order, and the mayor’s office was forced into an embarrassing retreat.
The mayor’s leftist crusade is draining resources directly from law enforcement. The city scrapped $50,000 signing bonuses for experienced officers, crippling the Seattle Police Department’s ability to attract veteran cops. This comes despite the department suffering a bleeding force that is down hundreds from normal levels.
While slashing police incentives to handle a projected budget deficit, Wilson happily funneled over $800,000 in taxpayer funds toward specialized LGBT and trans “community stabilization” initiatives.
Wilson ordered high-tech surveillance cameras dark near the Stadium District and refused to activate crime-fighting technology, prioritizing “privacy concerns” over catching killers, which left detectives begging the public for footage.
As Loux bluntly pointed out, Wilson believes public safety means “bus lanes” and activist payouts, while rank-and-file officers know it requires “boots on the ground.”
With officer departures increasing and surrounding cities offering actual police support, Wilson’s woke policies are turning Seattle into a criminal sanctuary.

Personally, I find the use of sanitized words to be ... triggering.
ah yes...good one
Were the trigger-pullers gestating or non-gestating persons? Or perhaps non-gestating persons who identify as gestating persons?
I would think that “trigger puller” would be worse. Liberals have done their best to make the guns themselves the villains in all the shooting death stories and absolve the criminals of liability in an effort to push gun control. Trigger puller makes clear that the individual is taking the action - pulling the trigger to shoot the gun and is responsible for the injury or death.
...and the victims are ammunition-impacted-persons....
Pretty much any heavily “blue” area is triggering to me.
Shouldn’t that be trigger-squeezers?
That is awful. It implies that someone is responsible for an action. Wouldn’t ‘trigger adjacent person’ be less judgy?
‘Bullet catchers’ were unavailable for comment on this sanguine development in law enforcement and plebian interlocutions.
Uh, wouldn't that be a mass trigger-pulling?
Liberals are so f’n annoying.
“I didn’t shoot anybody, I just pulled the trigger. How was I supposed to know what would happen next?”
