It may be one of the most deceptive public policy marketing schemes in modern history. First, pick the most popular health insurance program in the country, which is Medicare. Then call your health insurance reform proposal “Medicare for All,” even though the intent is to eliminate the Medicare program as we know it, so that no one would have that coverage anymore.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has long pushed to end the nation’s current mix of private health insurance (that is, employer-based and individually purchased) and government-provided health insurance (Medicare and Medicaid) and replace it with a new government-run program. Taxpayers would pay higher taxes — though no one would pay premiums — and the government would pay all medical bills.
Under most government-run health care systems, as in the United Kingdom, the government determines what services and medicines are available, who can have them and when. Bureaucrats rather than doctors decide whether patients are allowed to have access to those services and medicines.

That is what Sanders and 71 percent of Democrats mean by Medicare for All. But that’s not Medicare.
Sanders knows he’s being deceptive. His Senate website says, “Medicare is the most popular health care program in America.” Then he claims that under Medicare for All, “every resident of the U.S. will receive health insurance through an expanded Medicare program.” That is a blatantly false statement.
Medicare has multiple parts. Part A covers hospital bills, Part B covers doctors’ bills, Part C is now Medicare Advantage and Part D covers prescription drugs.

Please. If anyone believes that this guy Al-Sayed GAS about any American and their access to health care they’re not reasonable
The only way Medicare is as “cheap” as it is is by cost shifting. If a procedure costs $200 but Medicare pays $50, the doctor just says the price for everyone else is $300. If everyone is on Medicare, then there is no one left to shift the bill to. So you get over billing, less service or doctors just moving to non-Medicare practices like cosmetic procedures.
We cannot provide 100 percent medical services to everyone. it has to be rationed.
It’s like putting the DMV in charge of your health.
The free market actually solves problems. We need more of that, and less government.
Medicare is expensive for me. It was cheaper to be on work insurance.
It seems most people now have not heard of “limited government”.
We’re already doing too much and people wonder why socialism has so much appeal lately.

The UK’s NHS achieves better overall population health outcomes and universal coverage. This measure applies to the entire population.
The US spends 70% more.
HOWEVER, in the US, if you get really sick and have great insurance or lottsa bucks, you fare far better.
And doctors and hospitals and insurance companies make a LOT more money. And Big Pharm.
We even have nurses making $150k.
A highly paid specialty surgeon in UK makes about $200k, whilst that same specialty in the US makes about $1mil.
The UK used to be a high trust society.
We were never like that due to our history and demographics. Plus we are individualistic due to our culture.
Medicare currently pays hospitals about 60% of the cost to deliver the services. This is why most hospitals are sinking.
Too many of those bills never see another dollar paid on them. Bad debt at even modest sized hospitals is in the tens of millions of dollars every year.
Medicare for all would be a disaster. Hospitals would close. A trip to the ER? Forget it. If you get really sick….you are going to die.
In the US if you have great insurance or money and you need the very expensive drug or procedure, but an expected lifetime of 1 or two years...you get it anyway.
In the UK they cut you off and shift you to palliative care.
I take a cancer drug that costs about $10k/month and am 70-yrs old. I probably would not get it in UK.
I have the best, most gold plated insurance in the world.
VA at 100% disability - Priority 1.
One could argue that’s why a poor, illegal alien didn’t get a cancer diagnosis in time to save his life. Because those resources are directed to a dying man instead.

The article is not reliable. Currently there are 6+ approaches. The article only lists 2.
3) Some Medicare and Medicaid is FFS FEE FOR SERVICE
4) Some Medicare and Medicaid is CMO Care Management Organization.
5) Some Health care is 100% Socialist: VA hospitals, City, County and State clinics and hospitals
6) Some is Friends and Family. Grandpa and Grandkids help each other.
7) Some is traditional Religious and non-profit
8) Some is Faith Healing, Christian Scientist
9) .....

I hate Medicare...I am FORCED to be on it, because of age. We do everything to go around it as possible. It is the ultimate commie medical system. And, some people have to pay extra if they make too much money.
No country in the world even matches the quality US private healthcare, and Traditional Medicare even outclasses that.
The problem is that most Americans, particularly College-Educated Women, don’t realize that until (and unless) they are already on Traditional Medicare.
hmmm, Been on medicare for 1 year now, all I paid was the 250 they deduct from my social security and I have had a few small bills, less than 300. That Includes City of Hope Treatment for stage 4 cancer, they didn’t charge me anything extra.
Medicare For All = Canada Style Socialized Medicine. No, thanks, eh?
And Medicare is not cheap. You pay for the Medicare every month plus you have to have a supplement plus pay for prescription coverage.
Medicare is a small part of the problem. When you force hospitals to take in anyone regardless of ability to pay and citizenship status and then put administrative costs for all the regulations it makes it almost impossible for hospitals to break even. Medicare isn’t the only issue here.
I hate medicare as a retired veteran. They threw all of us to the wolves with the so-called Tricare for Life.
