The Trump administration plans to charge US employers $103,265 in new fees to hire highly skilled foreign workers via the H-1B visa program - an eye-popping increase that comes amid the administration's broader hard-line immigration crackdown.

The six-figure hike, proposed Monday by the Department of Homeland Security, would force employers to shoulder the extra $103,000 in costs for each H-1B recipient, in addition to other filing fees currently in place.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

eye-popping?? maybe to the likes of Musk, Dinesh D'Souza, and Vivek Ramascammy...

but certainly not eye-popping to the millions of competent native-born Americans already in or entering the workforce...more like logical and fair.

It would be nice if the ‘dual intent’ nature of it was removed.

It should be retroactive.

What’s going to happen when AI renders a lot of those jobs useless, will they go back to India?

No. They’ll buy a run down motel and start bringing their relatives over to work it. Once they’ve got a foothold here they never go back and use it to bring their entire extended family over.

Should be a recurring, annual cost to the companies hiring H1-Bs. If their talents are that valuable and that scarce in the US, companies should be glad to pay it. And if companies are just using H1-B to undercut salaries, this will put a stop to it.

An excellent idea.

I would raise it to $1 million.

If an foreigner can add $1 million to the value of an economy or company, then that person might be worth adding to the the US population.

H-1B has become a scam. The nation of India has learned how to manipulate to turn it into just another immigration and welfare fraud.

HOW IS THIS MEASURED?

Excellent! The number of new H1Bs has been greatly reduced with registrations dropping from 794000 to 211000 in two years. Once we get the $100K fee in place they should drop further.

The really big thing is that fee needs to apply to renewals. We still have plenty of H1bs we need to get out of the country.

This is 100% correct. Look at Frisco, Plano and Irving, TX. All new businesses are Indian owned...

No. Not at all, never went into effect. This one will be blocked as well from an administrative standpoint even if SCOTUS allows it. No one understands how this all works. Make it a million... it won't apply.

If MAGA meant "Make 'Americans' great again", all worker visa programs would be scraped and all present worker visa holders sent home. Spare me the "we lack skilled worker' BS. Any lack in "skilled workers" is because programs like the H-1B disincentivize schools, corporations and businesses from pursuing American workers/students.

What’s the point? When a judge will simply block it, and the administration will give up as usual.
