War Secretary Pete Hegseth’s visit to Iowa is fueling speculation that he could be testing the waters for a 2028 presidential run.
Officials familiar with Hegseth’s thinking told the Washington Post that the Iowa visit fits the actions of someone considering a run for president after his time in the Trump administration ends. One of those officials, speaking anonymously, described the trip as something of a test run for a possible 2028 bid.
Iowa’s longstanding role as an early presidential proving ground has added to the speculation surrounding Hegseth’s visit.
Hegseth traveled to the state in his personal capacity and appeared with several House and Senate Republicans. The Pentagon confirmed that he traveled aboard a U.S. military aircraft because he is designated a “required use” traveler.
That status requires Hegseth to use military aircraft for official and personal travel because of the need for secure communications and transportation associated with his national security responsibilities.
Hegseth appeared Monday alongside Rep. Zach Nunn (R-IA), where he praised Nunn and defended continued American involvement in the war with Iran.
He also appeared alongside Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA), the Republican nominee for the open Senate seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Joni Ernst, and was expected to appear with Rep. Mariannette Miller Meeks (R-IA).
The appearances come as Republicans work to hold ground in a state where recent polling has shown tighter races than in previous cycles.

I like Pete but I think Marco (my choice) would have a better chance in the election. His knowledge of world events and his position as Sec State would appeal more to indie voters than would the Sec. of War.
I have cooled on JD, warmed on Marco. JD’s growing antisemitism.. for whatever group he is trying to appease is a non starter for me
Hegseth may be presidential material one day, but it seems rather early to be seriously considering it for the next upcoming election. Just a short while ago, he was sitting on a couch co-hosting Fox & Friends. The world (and the GOP) can wait for a while. He also needs to improve at diplomatic debating or responding without making his response seem too personal.
Anybody but Vance.
F'n media got to print something in order fulfill their weekly news quotas........
Posted here, get ready for the firestorm.......LOL!
You took the bait.....LOL!
Maybe he got the idea that being married three times makes him presidential material?
Trump?

Yup. If they didn’t report fake news they would have nothing to do.
This is old news. This article, or one just like it, was posted days ago.
And debunked.
He was hosting Fox and Friends Weekend….
This guy is 46. Keep that in mind.
In 2004, Hegseth married Meredith Schwarz, a graduate of Forest Lake Area High School, at the Cathedral of Saint Paul in Minnesota. They were voted “most likely to marry” by their graduating class. Schwarz filed for divorce in December 2008 after Hegseth admitted to five affairs.
Hegeth had been dating Samantha Deering, whom he had met at Vets For Freedom. Hegseth married Deering in 2010 and the couple had three children. They filed for divorce in 2017.
In 2019, Hegseth married Jennifer Rauchet, a producer on Fox & Friends, at Trump National Golf Club Colts Neck in New Jersey, an event attended by the Trump family.
Hegseth fathered a child with Rauchet while he was still married to Deering.
Meanwhile, Trump was with wife #1 at the age of 46.
In 1977, Trump married Ivana Zelníčková. They had three children: Donald Jr. (b. 1977), Ivanka (b. 1981), and Eric (b. 1984). Ivana played a crucial role in generating the “fawning press coverage” that shaped Trump’s public image as a real estate mogul. The couple divorced in 1990, following his affair with model and actress Marla Maples.
He and Maples married in 1993 and had one daughter, Tiffany (b. 1993), whom Maples raised in California. They divorced in 1999.
In 2005, he married Slovenian model Melania Knauss. Their son Barron was born in 2006.
FWIW, two divorces and three wives usually aren’t highlights on a resume.
Not sure what your point is. We all voted for Trump lol.
Same deal with Hegseth.
But more likely we will go with Rubio or Vance anyway.
They’re both sinners. I mean, we all are…but three wives is pretty heavy.
Hegseth at 46 has divorced twice and is on #3.
At 46 Trump was still with Ivanka.
Hegseth’s quoting religious verses from the Book of Tarantino told me all I needed to know about him. Pass.
Just an observation.
Rubio will be tough to beat.
I guess in some circles this makes Hegseth and over achiever.
That’s not the point.
There’s only One Perfect Man.
If I waited for perfection I’d never vote.
9ndeed, Trump’s main competition in 2016 was still in her first marriage. Yet, she is also is a chronic liar, pro-abortion, called half of the nation a Basket of Deplorables, and left Ambassador Stevens to die in Benghazi.
Trump is no wait, and is in a state of mortal sin, unless he’s received absolution over his divorces. That speaks to his character, and should be a factor in assessing a candidate. He also didn’t do half of the disgusting things Hillary did.
Finally, while sin is sin, Trump at 46 years of age wasn’t as matrimonially challenged as Hegseth.
