Screenshot Florida Democrats just delivered a brutal repudiation to one of the central figures in the coordinated deep-state effort to take down President Donald Trump.
Retired Lt. Col. Alex Vindman, the National Security Council official who became a star witness in the 2019 impeachment circus over the Ukraine call, was defeated Tuesday night in the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate seat in Florida.
Progressive state Rep. Angie Nixon, a Democratic Socialists of America member, scored the upset victory.
Vindman had been heavily favored by party establishment types and far outraised his opponent. He pulled in more than $16 million while Nixon raised under $1 million.
Yet when the votes were counted, the self-styled “whistleblower” and anti-Trump media darling went down hard. With results reporting Tuesday, Nixon led by roughly 55-44 percent, and the Associated Press called the race for her.
Vindman was one of the key players who helped fuel the first Trump impeachment. As Director for European Affairs on the NSC, he listened in on the July 2019 call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, then ran to report it up the chain and later testified dramatically before Congress.
Conservatives correctly identified him early as a partisan actor inside the national security apparatus who helped advance a narrative aimed at crippling a sitting president.
The Gateway Pundit and other independent outlets exposed the selective outrage, the coordination with Democrats, and the broader pattern of resistance from within the bureaucracy.
Voters in Florida’s Democratic primary were not impressed by the résumé of the man who once wore his uniform to Congressional hearings while attacking the commander-in-chief. The money, the media love, the “hero” framing from cable news—it all failed.
Nixon, a Jacksonville state representative and union organizer known for dramatic floor protests and progressive activism, ran a grass-roots campaign that connected with the party’s left flank. She joined the DSA earlier this year.
She will now face Republican Sen. Ashley Moody, who easily won her primary, in the November special election to complete the final two years of Marco Rubio’s term after he became Secretary of State.
