You have to admit that what Gavin Newsom lacks in brains and sound policy he makes up for in sheer hubris. That's the only reason that Newsom could say with a straight face that his state is a global model for fire management. Perhaps that's true in a sense; Canada was burning so much that people as far south as Virginia were seeing, smelling, and feeling the impacts.
That's because Canada, like California, refuses to do basic fire management like clearing brush and old growth. This is nothing to brag about, of course.
But brag Newsom did.
"I can say this with absolute conviction. We don't imitate; we're a model for others," Newsom said. "We have people coming from all over the United States and around the globe to look at what California is doing in orbit, in the air, and on the ground."
Many people stop to gawk at a train wreck.
Nope. And they never will be.
"Affordable housing" will go up in their place.
As easily as breathing.

This guy is trying hard to create an alternate reality. The scary part is that so many are willing to live in it.
ANYONE voting democrat nowadays is living in an alternate reality...
“We have people coming from all over the United States and around the globe to look at what California is doing in orbit, in the air, and on the ground.” Too much hair gel Gavin.
Gavin’s ego won’t let him follow the first rule of national politics - know when to stfu. State politics doesn’t translate nationally, especially when you are a communist.
unbelievable isn’t it.
Considering some of the terrible fires California has suffered, how can he honestly say California is somehow a model in fire management?
Perhaps some people are going to California to learn what not to do in terms of fire management.
People will always want to live in California because some of the areas are uniquely perfect.
Imagine listening to the ocean every night in bed while the daytime weather stays at about 72 and sunny with low humidity, and 100 feet from your living room window you can sit on a surfboard and see the mountains, or quit surfing at 10:00 am and be snow skiing at 11:30 am and then rest in your snowy mountain cabin before driving back down into the sun and surf the next morning, back to the ocean you could still see from the mountain.
That's because Canada, like California, refuses to do basic fire management like clearing brush and old growth.
There is now way the Canadians can clear brush and old growth in their vast forests.
It is physically impossible.
Let Canada burn, the US cannot control stupidity.
Ironically, one of the best wildfire-fighting tools ever designed was planned by a California company. Improbable-sounding, it was a fire-fighting airship.
Compared to planes and helicopters, airships can carry heavy loads, and because they can “hover”, they don’t need to drop it all at once. Instead, they can “heavy rain” on a target for several minutes, which is a great way to both suppress fire and deny use of projected fuel, limiting its direction of spread.
Plus to refill, an airship can lit on an open tank or body of still water, like a lake, and refill its tank in short order.
Sadly, before even a prototype could be built, the company went bankrupt.
FACT: THAT “MODEL FOR OTHERS” RESULTS IN MASSIVE PREMIUMS FOR CALIF HOMEOWNERS.
I HAVE A FRIEND WHO HAS A LIVED HER ENTIRE LIFE WITHIN 40 MILES OF THE RANCH SHE WAS BORN ON.
SHE IS BEING FORCED INTO SELLING HER PROPERTY BECAUSE HER HOMEOWNER’S INSURANCE PREMIUM IS OVER $10,000 ANNUALLY & RISING. SHE & HUBBY CANNOT RETIRE WITH THAT PREMIUM LOOMING EACH YEAR.
IT IS BREAKING HER HEART.
KEY WORDS:
“SOME OF THE AREAS”
Stupidity is not a handicap in politics
Most of the areas, and even if you are poor and stuck in a house out in the desert, everything is just a short drive away, the snow covered mountains, the beaches, the forests.
I had a huge jump on a home owner insurance last year too. got it down to manageable by raising my deductible to 10,000.
