Democratic Socialists Call for Ending Presidency, Supreme Court in New Platform

The Democratic Socialists of America this week unveiled a new political platform calling for sweeping changes to the structure of the U.S. government, including replacing the presidency and Supreme Court with institutions subordinate to Congress.

The platform, titled "Workers Deserve More!," proposes replacing the presidency and Supreme Court "with an executive and judiciary chosen by and subordinate to Congress," a change that would require constitutional amendments and fundamentally reshape the nation's system of separated powers established more than two centuries ago.

The proposal is among the most far-reaching reforms included in the platform, which also calls for abolishing the Electoral College and eliminating the U.S. Senate.

All of the so-called ‘reforms’ are doable via amendments to the Constitution, except for elimination of the Senate. To do that, the democratic socialists (communists) are going to have to replace the Constitution itself because Article V forbids amendments that would deprive states of equal representation in the Senate.

Now this is, of course, the real goal of the DS/Communists but it does pose a problem. Anyone elected to public office is required to swear an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States; foreign and domestic”. Wouldn’t this ban any DS from serving?

4. Law on the Reconstruction of the Reich (January 1934)
This legislation fundamentally altered the state structure, abolishing independent state parliaments (Landtage) and transferring state sovereignty to the centralized national government. This centralized power transformed Germany from a federal republic into a highly controlled unitary state. [1]

Collectively, these steps established a totalitarian dictatorship under the guise of constitutionality—a façade maintained by continually renewing the Enabling Act. [1, 2]
