"Saudi Arabia is reported to have told him its airspace cannot be used for operations."
Donald Trump has suffered a major operational setback as he has been reportedly told by Saudi Arabia that the US cannot use their airspace, says former US assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern Affairs, David Satterfield.

I guess UAE and Israel really are the only reliable allies
Now enforce it.

😂😂😂
Take Qeshm, build big beautiful bases and resorts on it from here to eternity.
Grok says NBC news is also reporting.
Next time a Saddam Hussein-type invades SA, don’t call us.
How can a country that hosts American military bases deny the US use of its airspace? You really can't have one without the other.
The airspace restriction was reportedly just for the Operation to escort ships out of the Gulf. It had not been coordinated with them before announcing and commencing it, and they feared retaliatory missile strikes from Iran.

This operation seems to be the least planned. I too thought it would be a great solution that would settle everything without problems.
Can’t win em all.
That said, remember that the top priority of media - bar none - is to make people hate Trump.
There is no more important mission to them then that.
Imagine the US saying no to protecting Saudi Arabia from Iraq and Iran…
Such a deceptive headline. Saudi Arabia refused to allow use of airspace for Project Freedom which was announced by Trump on social media on Sunday.
Project Freedom was a short-lived U.S. initiative announced by President Donald Trump (around early May 2026) to escort commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz. This aimed to counter disruptions from the U.S.-Iran conflict (including Operation Epic Fury), using military aircraft for a defensive umbrella to help stranded vessels. https://www.jpost.com/middle-east/article-895397
Here is why, according to some news peoples:
Lack of prior consultation: Trump announced it publicly on Truth Social, surprising Riyadh and other Gulf states. Saudi leadership viewed this as disrespectful and disruptive to coordinated regional strategy. https://www.ynetnews.com/article/rj811quf0zx
Risk of escalation: The Saudis preferred supporting ongoing diplomatic talks to end the conflict with Iran rather than a new naval/military operation that could provoke further fighting or instability in the Gulf. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/trumps-abrupt-u-turn-plan-re-open-strait-hormuz-came-backlash-allies-rcna343845
Direct retaliation on access: In response, Saudi Arabia denied the U.S. permission to use Prince Sultan Airbase (southeast of Riyadh) or fly through Saudi airspace for the operation. This was critical because the mission relied on such access for air support. A call between Trump and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) failed to resolve it. https://www.i24news.tv/en/news/international/americas/artc-trump-forced-to-halt-project-freedom-after-saudi-arabia-blocks-us-air-access-report
It seems the typical knee jerk reaction seems unwarranted.
I do not think that any of these news articles actually get to the real reason why these regional states opposed Project Freedom. I’m going to guess it has something to do with setting a precedent on controlling that international waterway. Perhaps the fear is that such control could become permanent, I don’t know, but disappointment in the progress of peace talks seems unlikely to me.
Why we continue to play with the Saudi’s is beyond me. They are not our friends. In the end we need to realize it’s just us and if nobody else is on board than I suggest a touch of isolationism (mainly our money and arms). Let them languish.
Saudi Arabia became a target during round 1 of Op Fury. They don’t want to go through that again.
I don’t think we need to use their airspace to protect ship transit through the Strait.
The Arabs are probably miffed the hornets’ nest has been ruffled but not taken care of.
Ask NATO
Once a Muslim.....
Bye Saudia Arabia.
I’ll wait for CENTCOM to confirm this fear porn bs.
