A Panama-flagged cargo vessel operated by a South Korean shipping company caught fire following an explosion while anchored in the Strait of Hormuz late Monday, according to government officials. No casualties were reported.
The vessel, identified as HMM Namu, was anchored outside the port limits of Umm Al Quwain when the incident occurred at around 8:40 p.m., authorities said. The ship had 24 crew members on board, including six South Koreans and 18 foreign nationals.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said an explosion was observed on the port side of the engine room, with information relayed from a nearby vessel. The ship is currently on standby, with all crew confirmed safe as of around 9 p.m.
The authorities are investigating whether the damage was caused by an attack or a drifting sea mine, the ministry added.
The Foreign Ministry said it is also working to confirm details through its consular channels.
“At this stage, there are no reports of harm to South Korean nationals,” a ministry official said around 10 p.m. adding that further information will be released once the situation is fully assessed.
Relevant agencies, including the Defense Ministry and the Coast Guard, have been notified as authorities continue to monitor the situation.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route, where several vessels linked to South Korea remain stranded due to ongoing regional instability.

YES!!!!
Could be neither, and may be something that was caused by accident within the engine room? We'll know rather soon, I suspect.
Just stop it, Trump Admin, get on with it. Stop talking and start bombing. The current scenario over there isn’t going to get any better. Even if you starve them, that only hurts the populace; their cult leaders don’t care. We will never get the uranium, nor the Gulf freely open at this rate, and the Trump Admin is running out of mid-terms time. STOP DAWDLING! Geez....
Maybe this is the actual ship the Iranians say the hit...................
Agreed. I’ve been thinking the same thing all morning. Well, for weeks, actually...
Could be, but then you have to ask why they let two to pas safely.
More Andrew Jackson needed.
BS that was a US Navy asset lol:-)
6 Iranian boats sunk by us.
They didn't care about what they did to at least 40,000 of their own people in the last several months. They didn't care about the lives of those affected by their exportation of jihad for the almost half century.
They have to be 100% defanged. Those who have normal human empathy will understand and not be resentful (these are the ones who will defect). The rest are too destructively ideological to be left with ANY kind of power.

From Trump’s perspective, the May 1 War Powers letter formally ended hostilities. To resume military operations he either needs new congressional authorization or a new triggering event. Project Freedom creates the conditions where Iran fires first on a humanitarian operation. That gives him Article II self-defense authority without going back to Congress.
The trigger matters because it determines who owns the legal and political burden of restarting the war.
To be clear, this is my analysis of what he is doing and why. Not my endorsement. But I haven’t heard a factual argument that this read is wrong.

U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers are currently operating in the Arabian Gulf after transiting the Strait of Hormuz in support of Project Freedom. American forces are actively assisting efforts to restore transit for commercial shipping. As a first step, 2 U.S.-flagged merchant vessels have successfully transited through the Strait of Hormuz and are safely headed on their journey.
