List of Top US Companies Owned by China [2026]

What Does US Companies Owned by China Mean?

The phrase US companies owned by China refers to American businesses in which Chinese entities hold ownership, control, or meaningful financial influence. This ownership is not limited to outright takeovers. It spans a spectrum that includes full acquisitions, majority control, minority stakes with strategic rights, and indirect ownership through layered corporate structures.

To make this clearer, it helps to break Chinese ownership into distinct and practical categories, each with real-world examples.

Full Ownership and Complete Acquisitions

In some cases, a Chinese company acquires 100% of a US business.

The US company continues operating under its existing name, workforce, and branding. However, ultimate ownership, capital decisions, and long-term strategy are controlled by the Chinese parent.

A well-known example is Smithfield Foods, which is fully owned by WH Group. Smithfield remains an American brand in daily operations, but ownership and financial control sit with its Chinese parent.

Full acquisitions like this receive intense regulatory scrutiny, especially in sectors such as food production, energy, infrastructure, and technology. Majority Ownership and Controlling Stakes

Not all Chinese-owned US companies are fully acquired.

In many cases, a Chinese firm holds more than 50% of voting shares, giving it effective control while allowing the company to remain publicly listed or operationally independent.

This structure allows the Chinese owner to appoint board members, influence executive leadership, and direct corporate strategy without fully absorbing the company.

Dont waste time. a waste of pixels. Instead of listing companies the article drones on and on about layers and subsidies.

The details matter. I will deliberately avoid buying Smithfield products at the grocery, as there are plenty of other choices, but I'm not a fanatic about tracking down every product so that I can play commissar. And I have never been on a Segway, but now I know it is a Trojan Horse for the creeping Chicom conspiracy to take over the world.

The article should have moved its list of Chinese owned U.S. companies to the top rather than burying it deep in the discussion. I'm guilty of burying the lead myself sometimes, but the longer a piece gets, the more problematic that becomes given that most of us are just skimming.

Some tighter editing would have helped. Given my interest in the movies -- and my ongoing crusade to encourage more people to get out to theaters so that the streamers don't take over entirely -- I was surprised and disappointed to see AMC Theaters given as an early example. But I neglected to notice that AMC was given as an historical example and that the Chinese involvement was mentioned in past tense. I was aggravated enough, however, to check with Professor Wikipedia, and apparently that's over and done:

The company is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (ticker symbol: AMC); from 2012 to 2018, the Chinese conglomerate Wanda Group owned a majority stake in the company. Private equity firm Silver Lake Partners made a $600 million investment in AMC in September 2018, but the voting power of AMC shares was structured so that Wanda Group still controlled the majority of AMC's board of directors. Amid financial downturns caused by the COVID-19 lockdowns, in January 2021, Wanda's ownership was increasingly diluted due to new financing by AMC, as well as short squeezes that resulted in Silver Lake converting its $600 million debt holding to equity. In early February 2021, Wanda converted its Class B shares to Class A shares, thus reducing its voting power to less than 50%. On May 21, 2021, Wanda filed a 0.002% stake with the SEC, largely confirming the end of their involvement in AMC.

These companies get bought and sold all the time. Sometimes it's important. Sometimes it's not. But freepers should be relieved to learn that they can go see a real movie in a real theater without subverting American independence.

~~~
This is how many websites work these days.
Ever try to look up a simple recipe online?
Almost every recipe site makes you scroll. They don’t post recipes, they write annoying articles.
Sites like the one that the above article is on use a tactic developed by TV news casts many decades ago. BAIT and WAIT.
Tease the parts of the news cast that people might want, and make them wait for it.
It’s all about advertising, and the same is true for these websites. The more you have to scroll, the more ad slots you get exposed to.
Thank you for the warning about the link.
I was curious about a list of Chinese owned companys. I really think that is information that every American needs.
It’s a shame that it ended up being buried content.
China’s Anbang Insurance Group acquired the fabled Waldorf Hotel in NYC in 2014, paying a record $1.95 billion for the property.
They closed down the hotel and embarked on a lengthy renovation process that restored the luxury property’s former glory while converting many rooms into profit-making condominiums.
