Over 500 service stations nationally have run out of petrol or diesel as Aussies panic buy

More than 500 service stations across Australia are now without one or more types of fuel, according to the federal government, despite fuel continuing to flow into the country.

In a state-by-state update before federal parliament on Tuesday, March 24, Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen said that New South Wales had the highest number of affected sites, with at least 289 service stations without either diesel or petrol, including 164 out of diesel specifically.

In Victoria, 162 service stations had run out of one or more fuel types, with Victorian Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio telling ABC Radio Melbourne the shortages were driven by panic buying rather than a genuine lack of supply.

In Queensland, 55 locations were without diesel, while 35 had no regular unleaded petrol.

South Australia has 46 sites without one or more grades of fuel, Western Australia has six locations without one or more types of fuel, and Tasmania has six service stations without unleaded petrol and one without diesel.

According to the latest update, the Australian Capital Territory had no reported shortages as of yesterday afternoon.

As of March 2026, the Australian government declined to send navy ships to participate in a US-led coalition to open the Strait of Hormuz. Despite criticism from Donald Trump regarding lack of support, officials focused on Indo-Pacific priorities. Australia maintained it had not received a formal request and would not participate.

Bad choices lead to bad consequences. Enjoy the suck.

Ours could run out of petrol but we could rely on gas. ⛽🚗

“...Minister for Climate Change...”

I see they don’t teach 5th grade astronomy or Earth science down under.

They should just quarantine everyone like they did during Covid.

It must really suck to be a Democrat minded person.
You produce nothing tangible but expect everyone
else to take care of you.

A full tank of gas and lifetime supply of toilet paper... That’s all an Aussie needs and Japanese people are apparently freaking out over toilet paper again.

East Asia, the Orient and Australia are different from the rest of the world.

I’m mystified as to why the Aussies are so upset about the potential lack of “petrol”. I mean isn’t that what net zero is all about. Getting rid of fossils fuels. I should think they would holding their heads up high secure in the knowledge that they’re setting an example for the rest of the believers in “climate change”

The Japanese do like cleanliness. Their one very good export to Europe... Teaching those filthy euros how to shower every now and then.

Many years ago (40?)there was a contrived coffee shortage. People panicked (as well they should have, we’re talking coffee here) and prices rose and availability declined.

Banana producers saw how that went and decided to try the same. Nobody panicked and nobody bought bananas.

Better get to the grocery stores too and buy up all the T-P and bread before your neighbors get there. It’s what civilized people do when their useless governments and media create a panic narrative.
