Back home in the United States — the only major industrialized nation without universal health coverage, and the pope’s homeland — enhanced Affordable Care Act premium subsidies expired on December 31. The consequences have been brutal. Premiums for marketplace enrollees have spiked an average of 114 percent.
An estimated 4 million Americans are projected to lose coverage entirely because they simply cannot afford it. Congressional Republicans, with the quiet acquiescence of the White House, allowed those subsidies to lapse without so much as a floor vote on renewal.

-Gov't run "healthcare", -Overpriced and under-delivered, -Restricted access and delayed access, -Gov't paid for abortions and "mercy killings", -No breakthrough treatments, only procedures approved in the last generation, -If you need 12 months of physical therapy, you're authorized 2 months, ....

The church has been corrupt and a political organ for years. The underlying fallacy is that universal healthcare equates with actual delivered healthcare of a reasonable standard. Instead there is degradation of care, of outcomes and limitation of access to the suboptimal healthcare system.
Just as colleges have delivered poorer & poorer education for higher & higher costs due to the distortions of subsidies and easy loans, universal healthcare will encorage fraud and overuse. Demand will overwhelm the system as it has everywhere universal or government-run healthca was instituted.
This pope is duplicitous in service to political ideology. He cloaks himself in faux righteousness, confusing and misleading people to their own eventuul cost.
The Catholic Church was the original universal healthcare. They handed the calling over to the government.
Leo, it is a moral duty for the Church to provide healthcare to the poor. It is not a moral duty for the Church to force the taxpayer to try to pay for everyone’s healthcare. Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.
What’s his opinion on able-bodied people collecting welfare instead of working? I’ve never heard him comment on that.
