Fender can suck it after they collaborated with Obama to punish Gibson for not bowing down to the purple lipped Kenyan.
I agree 100%. I have not purchased a Fender product since.
Tough call.
Fender a US company with skill US employees making an excellent product that is being copied in China using slave labor.
This product may be visually indistinguishable from the US product but made with inferior materials and craftsmanship.
The Chinese product is displacing the real thing in the marketplace and puts the jobs of US employees at risk. It also reduces the influx of foreign trade income to the US.
I have no idea if Fender management has changed since Obama but I am fairly certain that the employees of Fender have and that their political views are not monolithic.
My views on this subject are mixed.
On one hand I think that copyright life should be limited just as Patents are.
The copy rights on Disney's 'Song of the South' is still enforced 80 years after its release. Disney and every person that worked on the film is long dead. Yet the film can't be seen by anyone because of the small minded political correctness of those who control the copy rights to the film.
On the other hand the laws exist everyone should be treated equally under the law. Fender's interest should be protected the same as any other company.
Overlooked in all of this is the truth the guitar business is a complete disaster. There is a glut of electric guitars for sale everywhere. Many people bought guitars during the COVID lockdowns and now demand for guitars has fallen off a cliff.
Yup. My cousin’s son was one of those. iirc he has 3 electrics and 2 acoustic. He’s quite good for having been self-taught.
But next visit I need to eyeball the brand(s) he purchased.
I was born and raised on Strats and will continue to play them.
Same here. Gibson Les Paul in black and Gibson SG in cherry (of course) are m’babies.
Yes, there is no good reason to buy any guitar new unless it's a custom.
Agreed. And don't forget the Guitar Here video game a decade before that, when every gamer thought he could play a real guitar. That adds to the glut of guitars made and sold but not being used.
Rickenbacker ! USA
Guitar is harder to learn and play than most people realize. That burning urge to be a rock star seldom overcomes barre chords. And then there are the innumerable hours practicihg scales. Most people give up after a couple of weeks.
I have a couple of Mexican Strats, one bought one off E-Bay. I updated the tuning machines on both, and I use one with my Roland GR-1 Guitar Synthesiser. That darn thing is so cool, it can practically read your mind when your playing it to select the sound you're looking for. It can synthesize almost ANY musical instrument, and it uses a guitar as the sound base, not a keyboard. It's pretty cool, but also pretty old.( 1992) My other Strat was actually given to me by a gym coach (RIP). He won it in some competition as a trophy.
My electric of choice these days, however, is the "Firefly". (Wait for the groans from the purists....) It is a knock off of the venerable Gibson ES-335, but it really rocks, and for about a 10th of the price. You read that right, a TENTH! It feels real good to me, especially the neck (I am a rhythm guitarist, jazzy-rock type stuff). It has received incredible reviews as well, and nowadays they are flying off the shelves, if you can find them. I love mine, and I am playing stuff I have NEVER been able to play. I play my electrics thru a Fender Mustang LTX50 amp, which gives great sounds.
Yep.
I agree.
Guitar Ping.
Isn’t Freddie Fender dead?
Amen, Martin too. Obongo’s goons ransacked Gibson’s factory and did hundreds of thousands in damage. They left Martin alone and they were using the same materials. Martin gave the rats money
This is really significant news. Gibson and Fender both back in the day trademarked their headstock shapes only, leading to countless other companies making perfect duplicates of their body shapes on guitars with different headstocks.
Gibson finally went after the myriad companies making exact duplicates of their iconic Flying V and Explorer designs, successfully forcing these companies (Dean, for one) to change their body styles.
The contoured Stratocaster body shape is iconic. When you ask someone to imagine an electric guitar, most people will visualize in their mind something that looks like a Stratocaster.
Leo Fender likely never imagined that 70+ years later, people would still be playing these things.
