Updated Summary of the Austin West 6th Street Mass Shooting (March 1, 2026)
A mass shooting unfolded early Sunday morning, around 2 a.m. CST, outside Buford's Backyard Beer Garden (a popular beer garden/bar) on West 6th Street in downtown Austin's bustling nightlife district, near Rio Grande Street. The area is frequented by locals, University of Texas students, and weekend crowds.
Sequence of Events (per police and witnesses):
- The suspect drove a large black SUV past the bar multiple times, activated hazard lights, rolled down the window, and fired a pistol at patrons on the outdoor patio, sidewalk, and front area.
- He parked the vehicle about two blocks away (near Wood Street and 6th), exited armed with a rifle (and possibly pistol), and continued walking east along 6th Street, shooting at pedestrians.
- Austin Police Department (APD) officers—many already staged nearby due to the busy weekend—responded rapidly (within ~1 minute per reports). At least three officers confronted the gunman, exchanged fire, and fatally shot him near West Avenue and 6th Street.
- Austin-Travis County EMS arrived quickly, credited with limiting casualties.
Casualties:- 3 dead total: 2 victims (patrons) + the shooter (killed by police).
- 14 injured and hospitalized; at least 3 in critical condition initially (treated at nearby Level 1 trauma centers like Dell Seton Medical Center).
- Victim names not released pending family notifications.
Suspect Details:- Identified as 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne (naturalized U.S. citizen since ~2006/2012 via marriage; originally from Senegal; early reports had variant spellings like "Njiawga Jani," likely transcription errors).
- Described by neighbors (in linked residences) as friendly/kind, Muslim, owner of a black SUV.
- Items recovered from his vehicle included a prayer rug/Quran, multiple weapons, and clothing (sweatshirt reading "Property of Allah," another with Iranian flag design).
- History of mental illness noted in some reports.
Investigation:- FBI (including Joint Terrorism Task Force) and DHS involved; probing a "potential nexus to terrorism" based on evidence and indicators (not yet confirmed as definitive motive).
- No established motive released; described as too early for conclusions.
- Search warrants executed at homes/apartments in Pflugerville (family-linked) and Del Valle (suspect's unit), involving APD SWAT, FBI, Homeland Security; items like the SUV searched at/near scene.
Reactions & Aftermath:- Witnesses described chaos, people diving for cover/hiding, and lasting trauma (e.g., UT students affected; university providing 24/7 counseling and hospital support).
- Officials praised APD/EMS quick response for saving lives.
- Statements from Gov. Greg Abbott, AG Ken Paxton, Austin Mayor Kirk Watson, Councilmember Zo Qadri (deeply shaken), and Rep. Greg Casar (linking to broader gun violence epidemic and calls for prevention).
- Community shock in a vibrant area; condolences and prayers widespread.
This remains an active investigation with updates expected. The transcript appears to be from early KXAN coverage (with minor name discrepancies resolved in later reporting).

Another "immigrant" mass shooter with a long criminal record, released by criminal-friendly judges to prey on innocent Americans.
"The shooter had a history of arrests while living in New York City from 2000 to 2008, as well as in Texas prior to the incident, per the New York Post." He was from Senegal, came in with Cater and legalized by Obama.

It took police and three dead to do what lefty judges wouldn't do:
"Officers arrived promptly and shot the terrorist dead."
