A video has emerged of Senate Democratic leader Charles E. Schumer in 1996 talking about the importance of ID checks to prevent welfare fraud by illegal immigrants.
The video is going viral online as Mr. Schumer and the rest of his party now vehemently oppose Republicans’ voter ID legislation. He describes the GOP-authored SAVE America Act, which requires photo ID at the polls and proof of citizenship to register to vote, as “Jim Crow 2.0” and says it is designed to disenfranchise minorities.
“Let’s admit the truth. Everywhere people go, they’re asked for a Social Security card. In fact, one way to prove you’re a bona fide person who can have a job is to ask for a driver’s license and a social security card,” Mr. Schumer, then a House lawmaker, said in support of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996.
“This is an anti-fraud amendment. All over where we go, people say, ‘Well, why can’t you stop illegal immigrants or others from coming here?’ And the number one answer we give our constituents is, ‘When they come here, they can get jobs, get benefits against the law because of fraud.’”
The Washington Times reached out to Mr. Schumer’s office for comment.
The bill he discussed restructured the U.S. welfare system and restricted immigrant eligibility for public benefits, increasing the need for benefit-granting agencies to verify immigration status. It also defined “federal public benefits” and “state and local public benefits.”
Mr. Schumer came out against voter identification in the 2010s, when stringent voter ID laws began to pass across the country, specifically following the Supreme Court’s 2013 Shelby County v. Holder ruling, in which the majority said part of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was unconstitutional.

Jim Crow 2.0 is such a racist thing to say. Now, are black people going to take offense and punish Dems, or will the accept the label of being too stupid to obtain an ID?

Schumer is simply trying to save his sorry arse — easy to do when you have no principles; no moral compass — although in today’s Democrat/Communist/Jihadist Party being unprincipled is viewed as a positive attribute.
In the 1990s, there was a broad collection of values and ideas that 99.9% of Americans held in common. Race, immigration, crime, sex, etc. We were all on the same page for the core items.

The first time I saw that guy on TV was running interference for the government actions at Waco. I remember saying:”that’s a real scumbag”. I haven’t been disappointed since.
Schumer like all the democrats wants to stop anything that deals with progress it’s not the Marxist way to run a government.
Chucky says 20 million Americans do not have ID. WTF?? OK, maybe children but I don’t believe 20 Million adults lack ID. My 12 year old has two valid US Government IDs, passport and Military Dependent.
Oh the irony. At the risk of stating the obvious, Jim Crow was a set of anti-black laws enacted by Democrats in Southern states to keep blacks from voting and ensure their political dominance of Southern states. Schumer’s legislation is a set of laws enacted by Democrats to ensure Democrats political domination of certain states. So its probably more appropriate to call Schumer’s legislation Jim Crow 2.0.
Schumer is an evil schmuck. Doing the opposite of his advice is almost a guarantee that you are doing the right thing.
Voter Fraud is bad until it’s your only hope. Then it’s necessary.

If you still have liberal friends you must expound this idea at them until they agree with you: there is no reason to oppose photo Id when voting unless they support the multiple ways that the left has developed to enhance the left’s chances at election victories. In other words - cheating.
