Two U.S. Navy ships collided Wednesday in an area patrolled by the U.S. Southern Command (Southcom), leaving two personnel with minor injuries, according to military officials.
The Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Truxtun and Supply-class fast combat support vessel USNS Supply collided during a replenishment-at-sea, Southcom spokesperson Steven McLoud said in a statement.
The injured personnel sustained minor injuries in the incident and are in stable condition. Both ships have reported sailing safely and the collision is currently under investigation, McLoud added.
The cause of the collision is unclear, along with the exact location of the incident.
A replenishment typically involves transferring fuel and other supplies between two vessels that are sailing next to each other.
The incident comes as President Trump has established a massive military presence in the Southcom region in recent months, ahead of the U.S. campaign to seize Venezuelan strongman Nicolas Maduro. The U.S. military has 12 warships in the region — which stretches Central America, South America and the Caribbean — including the USS Gerald R. Ford, the world’s largest aircraft carrier in the world, and its strike group.
In 2017, 17 sailors died in separate collisions involving Navy ships in the Pacific, both incidents that were avoidable and caused by “multiple failures” on the part of officers and sailors onboard, according to a 71-page report.

Okay...
Well someone was asleep on watch.
Someone’s naval career just ended.
It’ll buff right out.....
DEI has been known to produce undesired results.
“Well someone was asleep on watch.”
Ultimately the Captain is the responsible for everything aboard ship.

They were both moving at a good clip. Just a moment of inattention by a senior helmsman training a newbie.
During Unrep the supply ship maintains a nearly perfect course and speed.
It’s up the DDG to come alongside, a quarter screw turn at a time. And the warship ALWAYS has the Captain on the Bridge.
Who/What is the Captain of the USS Truxton?
Cdr. Koffi’s career is over.
“Ashore, CDR Koffi served as Command Qualification Program Assistant and ship handling instructor at the Surface Warfare Officers School,”
He’s supposed to be an expert.
Happened to be a rider on a cruiser that did an resupply drill. They were so smooth I never knew it was going on until going topside and seeing this ship next to use with what looked like a raging river flowing between.
The emergency breakaway drill to the theme music from Hollywood Cop was cool. Was told ships all had their own tunes to play doing that.
DEI female officers again... just watch.
My Grampa was on the USS Maumee AO2 in WWI. It pioneered the then new “secret technology and tactic” of the US Navy....underway refueling of the old 4 pipe destroyers!
Chester Nimitz was a Lieutenant aboard.
I have his service record. He literally signed on when she was in port and simply sailed away with the ship.
Unbelievable... someone is getting shxt canned.
What is happening to the USN? I have been in many refueling and unrep ops without any issues in the South China Sea off the coast of Vietnam. There have been a number of incidents over the past decade that indicate poor seamanship. Why?
One of the few places apparently where subordinates could deliberately get an officer relieved of command by doing a bad job.
