Walk into almost any undergraduate classroom in the UNC System today, and one thing becomes immediately apparent: Men are often a minority. This is not something announced in orientation materials or highlighted in strategic plans, but it is visible in lecture halls, student organizations, and group projects across campus. What once felt like a subtle shift has become harder to ignore, raising a basic but surprisingly under-asked question about public higher education in North Carolina: Where have all the male students gone?
When I arrived at UNC-Chapel Hill freshman year, I wasn’t thinking much about gender ratios, nor did anyone suggest I should. But, over time, in lecture halls, student organizations, and study groups, the imbalance became harder to ignore. It was discussed, mostly, in terms of dating. My friends would talk about the 60:40 ratio of female to male students, complaining there weren’t enough guys to go around. Male students were fewer, often more dispersed, and sometimes less engaged with campus life. At first, I assumed this was simply a quirk of my own experience. Only after stepping back did I realize that this pattern extended far beyond one campus, reflecting instead a broader and largely unexamined shift within North Carolina’s public universities.
That sense of imbalance is confirmed when enrollment data across the UNC System are examined more closely. At many universities, women now account for more than 60 percent of the undergraduate population, a proportion that would have been difficult to imagine even a generation ago. Of the 16 institutions in the UNC System, only three are not majority female, and even there the undergraduate populations are roughly evenly split between men and women.

Atlas is shrugging?
How are the majors distributed between male and female students?
Tell me again how women need extra affirmative action preferences to overcome the evil patriarchy and get a fair shake in life?
DEI is patent horse dung, designed only to punish and trample the rights of white males.
I bet we could look at the list of colleges and pick out the “teacher’s colleges” without much effort. And the engineering ones.
FTA - Debate over gender dynamics
The only “debate” is within the way wacky woke wokeness inside academia.
Most men can answer the question: What is a Woman?
A significant percentage of male Hispanics and male blacks voted for President Trump. They can also easily answer the question: What is a Woman?
The girliemen who adopt the Leftist gender insanity are not the kind of men regular women want.
The article also mentions the careers many men are pursuing, instead of college. Police, firemen, mechanics, plumbers, builders. What a Surprise! Real men that a woman can admire, and count on.
They figured out the grift and are pursuing non-traditional education venues and technical vocations.
The Devil has Eves number.
And this is why you see a push to abolish male activities everywhere in society. Get this feminisation of society. The Citadel lost its “El” thanks to the courts and is now La Cid.
And think about it. Schools are dropping pep bands from basketball games, replacing them with DJ’s and dance teams. This is even in high schools. The “purge all the guys” rules are here.
Why would an intelligent, White male go into enemy territory, such as a public, non-religious college?
The hilarious part of this is how many of these women displacing men at college will be unable to find a professional man “good enough” to date and marry.
Short sighted at best. Well, I guess they are either gay or want house husbands.
The author views this issue from a particular point of view, that everyone should go to college.
Perhaps it’s women who are limited to careers for which a college degree is a requirement or helpful. Are women the majority of tradesmen? Construction, auto repair, plumbers, oil industry field workers, etc?
Men are starting to just do enough to serve themselves. A consequence of feminism. Consequently, women are starting to outearn men as an average. Consequence to that, they are now starting to pay most of the taxes.
Gone to vocations, most every one--
The one place they really learn,
The one place they really learn.
(FD: My doctorate has given me a wise life, but I got it 50 years ago. I bow to the HVAC man, though, whose technical wisdom I cannot discern, but can only have faith in.)
Diversity is killing America.
Men (especially white men) are opting out because they have gradually figgured out that game is fixed.
Restore the Patriarchy!
Back in the old days we had to wait for the babes to clear a lecture hall after their psych lecture. We being the guys waiting for our engineering lecture to start.
Yep
Daughter is moving to TX to follow her IT career. SIL is tagging along, since his job is not a career. She makes the bulk of the money, and he comes home and cooks dinner. They are happily in love with each other, so I just sit and watch. I couldn't live that way myself, unless absolutely necessary.
P.S. I am moving with them. We are flipping roles. They have lived in my home for four years. Now I will live in theirs. On the surface, it won't look any different.
