Did China end its 1 child per family policy?
China is supposed to have 1.4 Billion. I think they're off by 1-2 hundred.
We are so screwed.
Communism will do that.
Kinda weird if you think about it.
Note that Mexico, a country that had 36M in 1960, and now has > 130M (no one really knows), has over 50% of the births of the far larger, exponentially more important country just to the north.
And that country to the north had a birth rate now significantly including children who are ethnically and genetically Mexican, probably comprising > 20% of births.
How does a historically insignificant nation, technically backward, famous for chaos, corruption and thuggery end up in such a dominant position relative to its neighbor?
Very simple. A child from birth to college degree in USA costs so much more than in Mexico. My 2 year old grand daughter’s daycare costs $2600/month in Seattle. In Mexico it is less than $200.
Something isn’t right about this chart. There are a number of articles that China is suffering from a population decline due to the former one child policy and the fact that most families had boys and there is a dearth of girls (now women).
Should have moved to Minneapolis.
First of all: It isn't a "chart" - it's a map. Specifically: a choropleth map.
Secondly, the map contains no incorrect information - but the naive or uneducated might be misled by the fact that the map presents only raw numbers of births, rather than per-capita birth rates.
Further, the demographic pyramid of each country is omitted.
As a result, the map presents a very distorted view of the actual situation.
