The Countdown to Iran’s Liberation Has Begun
American Greatness ^ | 25 Jan 2026 | Roger Kimball

Posted on 01/25/2026 7:18:50 AM PST by Rummyfan

Peace talk aside, the ticking in Iran isn’t diplomacy—it’s a death-rattle, as a murderous regime nears judgment and a brutal people pray that liberation, at last, is real.

In my column last week about the situation in Iran (“The Fog of Prewar in Iran”), I wrote:

Many commentators, noting Trump’s oft-proclaimed desire for “peace on earth,” believe he has paused to see if negotiations with Iran might end the slaughter. I doubt it. Trump’s desire for peace is perfectly genuine. But I note that the last time he said he wanted “peace on earth” was when he was asked whether he had any New Year’s resolutions just a couple of weeks ago. That was mere hours before he unleashed hell against the Venezuelan tyrant Nicolás Maduro, extracting him and his wife from their heavily fortified compound in Caracas and whisking them to New York in a stunning and perfectly executed special operations raid.

I opined that the “ticking sound you hear is not the world clock. It is the countdown to Iran’s liberation.” I added that we should hope that the liberation “encompasses not just the obliteration of that horrible Islamist regime but also the unraveling and supersession of radical Islam itself … a perverted, misogynistic, and death-embracing ideology masquerading as a religion.”

I would like to repeat and underscore that hope...

All my liberal friends are posting “I STAND WITH GREENLAND.”

Straining at gnats, swallowing camels. Our continuous prayers should be for the Persian Renaissance and the end of Islamodemonic control, in the place whose monster rulers truly want to see the world blown up for the sake of Allah.

I STAND WITH PERSIA!

I bet Mark Levin and the neoCON scum can’t wait for another forever war. Iraq and afghanistan worked out so well for the MIC. Time for another one. This is probably their price for ending the ukraine war - starting war in Iran.

The US and Israeli forces are in place, the Ayatollah has bunkered himself (and his family if he hasn’t fled already), many of his diplomats are requesting sanctuary in their present locations. מְנֵא מְנֵא תְּקֵל וּפַרְסִין

The people running Iran are ruthless. The fact that the late Shah did the same tells you something about the country and how it’s run. Even Saddam had to do the same things in Iraq so what does that tell you about how Iran will HAVE to be run down the road? Trump did say to ID the goons so that they can get theirs.

There are significant differences between what the Shaw did and what the Ayatollahs do and are doing. The Shaw brought significant prosperity to Iran. The Ayatollahs have destroyed any prosperity and do not care whether the population lives or dies, because they are trying to bring about their version of the apocalypse.

Claiming they are the same is not correct. Another difference is the Shaw was our ally, and the Ayatollahs have been our sworn enemy since they took over. As someone once noted about a dictator - He’s a “bastard” but he is our “bastard”.

If Iran and Venezuela become “our bastards”, the world becomes a much better and safer place. No forever wars needed. No “nation building” needed.

The whole damn country is not worth the life of one single soldier, marine or airman! F Iran! History tells us they are people that are part of the CULT! Aka Islam. Ergo, let them sort it out them selves. We will just continue to blow up their nukes every five years or so or as needed.

We have to be realistic. A bombing campaign is not going to topple the ayatollah. We aren’t goint to invade Iran. We can take out some key infrastructure and kill some of the IRGC leaders. But I’m not sure how much that helps. Iran is frustrating because the people hate the government and are willing to die for their freedom as they have demonstrated. But there isn’t much that we can do.

I think the US can help set up autonomous regions in Irans, in major cities; and perhaps take over oil shipments. Any moves against those regions by the IRG would result in their destruction from the air. On the ground, build up sympathetic armed militias to support freedom in those regions.

I was thinking that too - maybe take over the oil fields. It would cripple the money to the ayatollahs and would be defensable from sea. But it would put a huge target on our backs for terrorism and could turn into a quagmire if it did not result in regime change.

The voices quoted here are reminiscent: at Ayn Rand’s going away party, before escaping the Soviet Union, a man told her to tell the West: “Russia is a big cemetery and we are all slowly dying.”

“But there isn’t much that we can do.”

How about smuggling small arms and ammo to the resistance groups? Perhaps the rank and file IRGC would not be a supportive of the regime if they thought that any moment could be their last moment on earth. Perhaps I am being naïve.

High school classmates, mostly. Those of us who went to DOD HS in Yokohama in the late 60s are a close-knit bunch, much more than the usual old classes. We were all on the left back then, a good percentage of us got red-pilled. It's the one group I know where everyone is adamant about their politics, but the lefties respect the righties because of the high school tie.

The Shah’s secret police were boy scouts compared to the Mullahs.

The actual death toll from two days of slaughter of unarmed citizens - who came out into the streets because our President promised them support - is internally estimated to be nearly 40,000. And the Mullahs are now quietly murdering the prisoners as well.

Iran’s rulers want to spread Shiite Islam to expedite the arrival of the “hidden 12th Imam” who supposedly will come back at end of times.

To spread Shiite Islam, they aren’t just funding proxy forces and “Islamic Centers” all over the world. In the US, children of the Mullahs have obtained residency, even citizenship, and are active in universities.

Remember Khatami, the “moderate” president? His daughter was at Harvard.

Yep. Speaking of that, we may say the same about Assad compared to the current President of Syria Ahmed al-Sharaa (Islamist but he decides to put on a suit to impress the West).

Iran: a nation of 85 million, of which 95% hate the mullahs.

It sits on the world’s largest combined (oil + gas) hydrocarbon reserves. It has 1,000 miles of coastline with Persian Gulf and can control flow of oil through Strait of Hormuz. It’s current missiles reach all of our allies in the Middle East and shipping through the Red Sea and Suez Canal.

For 47 years, the rulers have chanted “death to America,” burned the US flag, killed 200 US Marines in Beirut, bombed USS Cole, and killed dozens of servicemen in Iraq. They funded Hamas, Hezbollah, and Houthis. And they are funding Islamic Centers, MSM mouthpieces, and lobbyists right here on U.S. soil. The children of the rulers have gained US residency, even citizenship, and are active in universities.

Currently, the regime is the puppet of Putin and China. It trades with them, provides them with drones, and does their bidding in the middle east.

We have a historical opportunity to liberate that country, make it our biggest ally in the middle east, have it do our bidding in the region.

Iran’s infrastructure and industry was neglected for 50 years and is dilapidated. Liberating Iran would open up a huge market for Boeing, Chevron, Exxon, Raytheon, Grumman, Caterpillar, John Deere, Ford, GM, GE, US Steel, Procter & Gamble, Monsanto, not to mention consumer goods: Apple, McDonalds, KFC, Levi’s, Kraft, etc.

An independent Kurdistan is the answer. Senator Joe Biden was right back then.

**The Shah’s secret police were boy scouts compared to the Mullahs.**
Doesn’t matter. The protests were big even in DC when the Shah visited. Carter was in office then. The next government will be turbulent. Gotta jail the goons and hopefully put the mullahs in a cage and on trial.

I was in the Navy when the Shah left Iran. One of the most popular t-shirts for sale in Subic Bay had a picture of the Shah, and underneath “I Ran” - kinda funny
