Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s U.S. Senate campaign released its first political advertisement of the hotly contested Senate primary race targeting Sen. John Cornyn, marking an escalation in a race that’s been expected to have plenty of fireworks.
The ad centers on past remarks by U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett praising Cornyn’s bipartisan cooperation, a theme Paxton’s campaign is using to frame the incumbent senator’s record as increasingly aligned with cross-party dealmaking. The release comes as Cornyn’s Republican challengers have publicly criticized him for declining to participate in debates.
The advertisement strings together clips in which Crockett describes Cornyn as “helpful” and a “partner,” and references Cornyn’s prior remark that he offered to be her “dance partner” in the Senate. The spot also includes stylized visuals as part of the campaign’s contrast messaging.
Debate Pressure Builds
The ad’s release coincides with renewed scrutiny from Cornyn’s GOP opponents over his decision not to engage in debates with Republican challengers. As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Cornyn declined multiple debate invitations — including a candidate forum hosted by The Dallas Express and co-sponsored by both Dallas and Tarrant County Republican Parties as well as many prominent conservative clubs, including Dallas County Young Republicans, Park Cities Republican Women, American Jewish Conservatives, and others — while both Paxton and Congressman Wesley Hunt publicly pressed for public debates.
Both Paxton’s and Hunt’s campaigns agreed to The Dallas Express forum while Cornyn’s campaign respectfully declined. Those candidates sit down for separate interviews with DX this coming Monday. The invitation to Senator Cornyn’s campaign to attend DX’s candidate forum as well as to sit down for an interview remains open. The Cornyn campaign has respectfully declined to date.
The debate dispute has become a central point in the primary, according to Cornyn’s challengers, who argue voters are being denied direct engagement with the incumbent, going so far as to accuse Texas’ Senior Senator who finished as the runner-up for Senate Majority Leader to John Thune just last year of running a “Biden Basement Campaign”.
Broader Campaign Context
Cornyn’s campaign has faced sustained pressure within the Republican primary over both messaging and record. Earlier The Dallas Express reporting documented Cornyn’s efforts to secure President Donald Trump’s backing despite past public clashes, including bipartisan gun legislation that drew criticism from Trump and other Republican figures.
Cornyn has also faced criticism over prior campaign advertising tactics, including a separate ad that drew attention for selectively editing remarks attributed to Trump — underscoring how campaign media itself has become a recurring issue in the race.
Comments and clips highlighting Crockett’s praise of Cornyn’s bipartisan approach have circulated widely on social media in recent months, a theme Paxton’s campaign now elevates through paid media as the primary intensifies.

Campaign Positions
In statements accompanying the ad, Paxton argued the contrast highlights what he describes as a fundamental difference between Cornyn’s tenure in Washington and Paxton’s record as attorney general.
Cornyn, meanwhile, has publicly dismissed Crockett’s general election prospects. In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Cornyn said, “I think she is unelectable in a general election in Texas. Texas is still a conservative red state. She can’t win, so I’m really happy she’s decided to run.”
The Road Ahead
Paxton is challenging Cornyn in the 2026 Republican Senate primary alongside U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt. With debates unresolved and advertising ramping up, the race is entering a more confrontational phase as candidates move to define Cornyn’s record — and their own — before Republican primary voters.
Paxton sits down for an interview with The Dallas Express today, January 16, and with Congressman Hunt on Monday, January 19.

The polls are garbage. For all his baggage, Paxton is going to win the primary going away. Whether the Bush-RINOs are going to try to torpedo him in the general is a different story. With any luck, this election will be the death-knell for the Bushie-RINO Uniparty in Texas.
What a convoluted title. You almost get that Paxton is dropping out of the race.
If/when Cornhole is kicked to the curb, I’m going to throw a massive party. He is among the most despicable of RINO’s, and is expert at hiding it.
Crockette is finished. The left’s new “rising star” DemonBrat is a honky of some kind, (Puerto Rican maybe). Talarico has announced to his group of moron voters and illegal alien supporters that Illegal alien anchor babies are “more patriotic” than American infants are. (Proof of how much drug they are swallowing). The boy is a real snowflake but has been able to grab the illegal alien anchor baby voter base already. Real DemonBRATS. Crockette is toast. She can go back to dressing up in her birthday party dresses and cussing her filthy mouth off like all the other former Pork Chop and Pancake Shack waitresses.
“For all his baggage, Paxton is going to win the primary going away.”
Hahahahahahaha! “Cornhole” Cornyn! Love it! Never heard that before, but that is likely because I am late to the game!
Paxton has the high Trumpian honor of being saddled with a fake, purely political “impeachment” by the Texas House. That has only helped him.
The Texas Bushies are a bunch of vindictive little B1tches. Look for them to sabotage Paxton if he wins the nomination.
I despise the way so-called “professional” writers are cutely changing the meaning of words in our lexicon. “Dropped” is a perfect example. The word means to discontinue something in existence. Such as “Ella dropped her boyfriend because he was cheating on her.” But they’re using it to mean exactly the opposite of its meaning. This particular article is the perfect example. “... Paxton Drops First Senate Campaign Ad...” Does it mean that he pulled an ad already in existence?; or that he introduces a new ad? These interpretations are completely opposite of each other, and the reader must read the article to determine its meaning. So, it looks to me like clickbait.
“For all his baggage“
What baggage?
Or that Crocket was endorsing Paxton.
“What baggage?”
“This is his “baggage” made with false outrage concocted by the left. It’s bad enough that some Freeper here repeat this garbage.”
I’m not getting an answer from the poster
“What baggage”?
The media is getting the concoction from somewhere. They put it out they don’t concoct it
A Paxton PAC ran a much better ad last year showing news video of Cornyn standing next to Hillary Clinton with both smiling and holding hands up in the air signifying unity, followed by a video of Joe Biden praising Cornyn and then joking "I hope I don't get you in trouble..."
That ad was devastating to Cornyn's early polls last year, and Paxton should run that ad again.

Well said .
“For all his baggage“
What baggage?

Youthful indiscretions are one thing. In Paxton’s case, within a month of announcing for Senate, he was cavorting around in a Dallas hotel with his mistress (a married socialite and so-called “Christian influencer”). This second mistress was one step too far for Mrs. Paxton, and she filed for divorce.
Paxton seemingly cannot understand why Christian conservatives are not enthusiastically supporting him following his recent willful indiscretions. He made a big deal about posting the 10 commandments in Texas schoolrooms, while somehow ignoring the one about not committing adultery.
Typical professional politician!
They did it for speaker of the house in Texas. They aligned with Democrats to prevent a conservative and elect a GOPe.
Gossip about his divorce is baggage for people who don’t understand how democrats ruin our country they use the media to influence.
Do you know anything about Texas politics or what Paxton has done?
Do you know that Texans vote for republicans to be in charge but the republicans hand over the power in Austin in the state house - to democrats. Democrats rule Texas. Against the wishes of the populace
Do you know anything about the marriage and what is actually going on
Or why it matters in terms of the job he is doing
Someone sent Louis gohmert in there to run against him and he started this gossip. What was his angle. Where has he been since
Do you know all the cities in Texas are bluer than most of the NYC suburbs
That democrats will never stop trying to turn the state blue
If Texas turns
Do you know the entire north of the city of Dallas is Muslim enclave. There is no English language no Americans there and they are building hundreds of mosques Houston is close to getting there
Are you looking at what Cruz or Cornyn are doing for Texas? Cruz says he something to the effect that he was elected to take care of Israel
Do you know what Cornyn is doing for Texas? Can you think of anything he’s done in the decades he’s been in, since 2002 besides campaigning. Are you sure he is not the one amplifying the smear against Paxton. Because Paxton does his job. He’s kinda the only one in high echelon of Texas politics who does his job. He makes Cornyn look like the new kid at the cash register. Or just a democrat
Cornyn has opposed President Trump’s agenda in nearly one-third of his votes, according to Wesley Hunt’s site
Worse, Cornyn bombards Texas with pro maga ads pretending he is in office to help Trump. He knows that’s the winner. But he won’t actually support Trump
Paxton does
Is Cornyn married, divorced? Does he live with his wife? I don’t care. What do I care if a guy is Christian if he’s allowing an illegal immigrant and or Muslim takeover while he’s pretending he’s helping, doing nothing.
People pretend this is the 1990s and we have time for this.
I’m Catholic. I live a Christian life with like minded friends. My government should work to allow me that. They can do that whether they’re married, divorced or in between as Paxton has proven
