"Pure Fantasy": China Mocks Iran's Aid Demands

China has become one of the closest and most important countries to Iran - but is now refraining from providing it with critical support. • Tehran expected expanded economic and political support, but Beijing is content with general and meaningless statements. • Chinese social media joked and criticized Iran: "Expect China to pay the price instead."

Assaf Rosenzweig. N12 Published:01.14.26.

Iran is in the midst of its most serious crisis in recent decades, and against the backdrop of the US and Israel's threats of attack, Tehran is trying to gather support from countries and powers close to it. As a result, Tehran's disappointment in the lack of support from China, a critical country for Iran, is particularly great, and reflects the depth of the Iranian regime's distress, which appears to be left almost alone at a critical time.

Despite the close relationship and long-standing declarations of friendship, China is in no hurry to come to Iran's aid at this sensitive time. Against the backdrop of widespread street protests and a continuing economic crisis, Iran has expected greater support from Beijing, including on the political and diplomatic levels, but so far this is hardly forthcoming, the Wall Street Journal reported yesterday (Tuesday).

China’s probably confused…. Uyghurs and Iranians all look the same to the Chinese so maybe they suspect Uyghurs are actually running Iran now. That’s just a stupid attempt at humor but I’m not surprised that the Chinese aren’t in a hurry to economically aid Iran.
