So how did the Obama Presidential Library end up appearing as an ugly Flakturm (flak tower)? My theory is that the architect, who was familiar with Flakturm structures, presented the design to Barack Obama as a practical joke. He naturally figured it would get a big laugh from Obama and when they were done laughing, the architect would show Obama his real design for his presidential library. However, much to the astonishment of the architect, Obama absolutely loved the Flaksturm design and raved about it. At that point the architect could NOT tell Obama it was just a joke design since it would be too embarrassing to reveal Obama as a fool in the design department so they were stuck with the Flakturm design.
Hey, that's my theory but if you have a better one to explain how the Obama Presidential Library ended up with such an incredibly ugly chunk of cement Flaksturm design, I would like to hear it.

Yes, they were quite formidable in holding off air attacks. So long as they could be supplied no units of any sort could get near — they had artillery, too. Berlin had an entire ring of these things.

The concrete trash receptacle on Lake Michigan would have to stand on the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum's shoulders to kiss a flak tower's arse. The Flakrurme forms followed function, and time has shown them to be pretty durable (all things considered).
The only silver lining to to the Dollar General Moai in Grant Park is that it will probably be easy to demolish.

Let’s give Obama some credit here. He was obviously building both a presidential library AND a defense structure against any future air raids on Chicago.

My theory - BO wanted a building that looks like an ugly, infested boil that would be here forever and ever, with taxpayers on the hook for the maximum amount of money he could get every single year as a middle finger to America.
