Summary
The video debunks five myths about socialism and seven myths about capitalism.Myths about Socialism:
- "That wasn't real socialism" – The Soviet Union and Venezuela closely matched socialist principles (abolishing private property, state control of production), yet both resulted in economic failure and hardship.
- Venezuela's collapse was due to poor governance or falling oil prices, not socialism – Socialism inherently prevents the decentralized adjustments markets make, leading to shortages and mismanagement regardless of external factors like oil prices or sanctions.
- "Democratic socialism" works – Even democratically elected socialist leaders (e.g., Chávez, Maduro) centralize economic control, making it impossible to remove them democratically and leading to authoritarianism.
- Scandinavia proves socialism works – Scandinavian countries are market economies with high economic freedom; their past experiments with heavier socialism led to problems, prompting reforms toward privatization and lower taxes.
- Socialism is completely different from fascism – Both replace market decision-making with command-and-control systems, reducing individual autonomy; the key difference is nominal private ownership under fascism.
Myths about Capitalism:- No one legitimately makes a billion dollars; they take it from others – Billionaires create new wealth; consumers voluntarily trade because they value the product/service more than their money, and most created value (≈98%) benefits society.
- The rich get richer while the poor get poorer – The economic pie grows; poor and middle-class incomes rise over time, and many move into higher income brackets.
- Monopolies dominate free markets today – True monopolies are usually government-created; in free markets, high market share invites competition (e.g., Myspace → Facebook, Blockbuster → Netflix).
- Free markets create unsafe workplaces – Workplace safety improved steadily before regulations like OSHA, driven by rising wealth enabling investment in safer conditions.
- Capitalism produced evil "robber barons" – Figures like Rockefeller and Vanderbilt lowered prices, improved services, and raised living standards; their wealth came from voluntary exchange, not exploitation.
- Capitalism does not optimize well-being – It gives individuals freedom to choose what improves their lives through voluntary transactions.
- Capitalism/Automation will eliminate jobs – Technological progress destroys some jobs but creates far more higher-paying ones overall, raising living standards across generations.
The video concludes that free-market capitalism has generated unprecedented prosperity and lifted billions out of poverty, far outperforming any alternative system.

The book Arguing With Socialists By Glenn Beck is pretty good and understandable. If you accept that it’s by him.
I’m about to make a total break with listening to him. As Fr Mitch Pacwa said as early as the TV days for Beck, “I used to get so upset and actually worried for a couple of days after he made some dire predictions. Finally I just stopped listening to him at all.”*
I intend to do the same as he launches into ecstasy about how thrilling and awe inspiring his AI partnership in January is going to be. Not my kind of thing. Named George after Washington.
* He said on the air that the US supplied missile to Ukraine in 2024 to fire into Russia were going to trigger WWIII and he didn’t expect to have his show on the next day so farewell to his listeners.
Another: He sobbed with 2 minutes of dead air about 5 times the days after Charlie Kirk was killed, unable to finish words in sentences, then went to commercials again.
After I forgave him for rubbing Cheetos all over his scalp and face along with this on air staff in order to mock Donald Trump before he got the nomination the first time.

Notice the signs behind her onstage are shaped like headstones in a cemetery?
I still can’t decide if the new MS Now triggers more thoughts of multiple sclerosis or feminists’ Ms.
Do not like either one.
