President Donald Trump signs an executive order to reclassify marijuana as a Schedule III drug
Summary
President Trump signed an executive order on December 18, 2025, directing agencies to expedite the rescheduling of marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III under the Controlled Substances Act, facilitating expanded medical research while not legalizing it nationwide.
CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz announced that the CMS Innovation Center is launching models allowing millions of Medicare beneficiaries to access doctor-recommended hemp-derived CBD products at no cost starting as early as April 2026, provided products meet state and local quality/safety standards and come from legitimate sources. Patients may be eligible for up to $500 annually in such products. Medicare Advantage plans are also agreeing to consider covering CBD for their enrollees.
CMS will collect and analyze patient outcome data (in compliance with privacy rules) and make it publicly available to inform potential expansions to more conditions in Medicare and Medicaid if results show promise.
Speakers, including researchers, a cancer psychiatrist, an oncologist, the American Legion commander, NIDA Director Nora Volkow, and RFK Jr., emphasized the need for rigorous research into cannabis/cannabinoid benefits (e.g., for pain, anxiety, PTSD, chemotherapy side effects) and risks (e.g., addiction, youth vulnerability), highlighting how rescheduling enables larger-scale, high-quality studies and access to standardized products.
Howard Kessler, a personal advocate influenced by his own health experiences, thanked Trump for the changes aimed at helping seniors and others.
The event included thanks to various officials and advocates, followed by Trump signing the order and answering press questions on unrelated topics such as ACA subsidies, the Federal Reserve, housing, military bonuses, the Kennedy Center renaming, and foreign policy.
Trump going for the stoner vote for mid-terms?
So busy you can't even take time to scan the summary I take it?
“So busy you can’t even take time to scan the summary I take it?”
Too drunk :).
Not something to get all weed-weed up about.
“Why don’t we all get stoned ?” said Mac Davis.
D’oh...even the first sentence for that matter! :)
Hey...I’ll take my lumps!
“One Toke Over The Line”
“Trump Liberalizes Pot” he’s going for the “Dope Smoking Maggot Infested FM Vote”
He’s got the Grateful Dead vote. Maybe even Steely Dan.
Text of the EO:
It is harmful to have Federal laws which are not enforced, or worse yet, enforced selectively.
Marijuana use is not a good thing (IMO). But neither is alcohol use. We have ways to cope with those substance abuses that are less damaging than trying to ban the substances.
Cocaine, Fentanyl, Heroin, or Methamphetamines? No thanks. Restricting those items causes less damage than the abuse of them.
We do need to make judgements. Then we need to monitor events and see if those judgements seem to be correct. Sometimes, we need to revise judgements. This reclassification of Marijuana is one of those times.
CBD can’t get you high. No THC in it, which is what gets you high.
I agree with your post. I am not supportive of legalizing marijuana, but I also don’t think it should be classified as a Schedule 1 drug. That’s preposterous.
In before a bunch of dummies say they’ll never vote for him again”)
The youth of today are consuming it in new ways the older generations didn’t that’s for sure.
There’s fear of losing the youth vote here.
“CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz announced that the CMS Innovation Center is launching models allowing millions of Medicare beneficiaries to access doctor-recommended hemp-derived CBD products at no cost starting as early as April 2026,….”

I literally just signed up for Medicare today, and will start on March 1. So I guess that I can make some money on the side being a dealer for all of the Zeepers who have such contempt for us Boomers. 😜
“Marijuana use is not a good thing “, I agree. Marijuana has more downsides than upsides. This is a foolish and pandering move. Trump is incompetent in selecting advisors, his track record for selecting bad advisors is unmatched.
BOO
Did you even read what he did?
