If Elon Musk Supports the Second Amendment, Why Is X Still Banning Gun Ads?

Elon Musk has championed the First and Second Amendments in the United States Bill of Rights. However, X, formerly Twitter, has a policy that prohibits the promotion of weapons and weapon accessories worldwide. In effect, this bans paid advertising for all weapons and weapon accessories, even so far as to include airsoft guns, air guns, paintball guns, and imitation guns. From business.x.com:

This policy applies to monetization on X and X’s paid advertising products.

What’s the policy?

X prohibits the promotion of weapons and weapon accessories globally.

Examples of weapons and weapon accessories include:

Most large platforms have caved to anti-Second Amendment propaganda. The X policy likely predates Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter. Elon Musk has been a strong proponent of the Second Amendment. The X policy on weapons could change in the future, as each platform privately makes these decisions.

Comcast Corporation banned advertisements promoting guns or gun sales in 2013. Time Warner banned some gun advertising in 2013.  From opb.org:

So what this means is that the main sort of conventional media channels for advertising of other consumer products are not available to gun manufacturers. For example, Comcast and Time Warner have initiated bans on firearms in 2013. Other major television broadcasters like ESPN and Fox and CBS do not accept advertisements for firearms or ammunition. And major digital and social media platforms like Google, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, prohibit ads for firearms and ammunition.

Such broad bans are having unintended consequences.

Broad bans on the advertising of weapons on major platforms have unintended consequences. They may end up promoting the Second Amendment as much or more as denigrating it.

Liability issues. He doesn't need the headaches, and I don't blame him.

Does not detract from hos pro-RKBA stand.

Probably a host of reasons, but primarily they just don’t want to be sued in case the ads produce some mass killing incident..................

I remember other social media/marketing outlets that allowed gun sales and then got sued when one of those guns was used in a crime. Musk is simply avoiding a potential issue.

Sort of like, here in Tulsa we have America's largest gun show twice a year. Yet, there are signs up that forbid patrons to conceal carry a loaded, unzipped firearm. The show isn't anti concealed carry. The show is speaking from experience. And experience shows that humans, as a species, is stupid.

Stupid, as in, somebody will accidentally touch off a round with their loaded gun.

I agree...

X takes enough heat simply for being the only uninhibited 1st Amendment platform....

All we need is is more reason for the left and the
globalists to attack the platform and justifying banning or suing it.

If Elon Musk Supports the Second Amendment, Why Is X Still Banning Gun Ads?

Elon Musk has hired a bunch progressive apparachiks to operate his X platform. They are still doing some of the things that for which Jack Smith's Twitter was famous.

Why? Liability, lawsuits are painted with a broad brush. Even successfully defending yourself is very expensive.

One year I went a section on the lower level was closed w/yellow police tape. A vendor had come it, set up his table, and displayed his firearms. He was showing someone one of his shotguns and shot the table next to his.

When I got there, there was glass all over the place and blood on the floor. The vendor next to him was injured and security escorted the negligent dealer off the premises, never to return.

I’ve been canned on “X” because they didn’t like a post that I did, can’t remember which one but it probably was against the muzzies or I used the acronym POS.

I’ve been banned on Twitter/X for over 6 years despite numerous appeals since Musk bought it.

Apparently I’m not alone.

They’ve still got a problem over there.

His platform. I don’t have a problem with it, actually. Gun purchases should be studied, informed rational choices. The US Advertising industry has created enough pandemonium in the US.

Probably because of foreign countries objecting to the ads. Most of those platforms are accessed all over the world and some countries would halt access to them.

Unfortunately, witnesses say the shooting on Bondi Beach went on for 10 minutes. The shooting went on for 10 minutes after the police showed up. One of the gunmen was finally tackled by a heroic bystander.

Imagine if that had been on a beach in Texas...

I only use X/Twitter for weather related items. Other than that, I don’t engage politically on it. It’s too depressing anymore to do so, and finding out that many of the accounts are from overseas or AI is what finished it for me.

I don’t think it has anything to do with the second amendment. I think it has to do with the fact that X is used by children. I would not want them advertising alcohol or tobacco products and I would not want them to advertise erection medications or marijuana products. I don’t know what they allow to be advertised because I don’t use X very much.
