Repaired cracks cover the walls of every large New York Thruway rest stop near Rochester, according to a recent News10NBC investigation. The damage is visible at sites like Clarence, Pembroke, and Clifton Springs — all finished in 2023.
The walls were built by Nexii, a Canadian company promoting eco-friendly materials. Applegreen, the Irish firm that rebuilt 27 rest stops with private funding, says the cracks aren’t a safety concern and repairs are ongoing.
No toll or tax money funded the construction, officials confirmed.

no tax payer money? Yeah right. These are new buildings since 2023. Would be better to close the thruway stops which are extremely expensive and have a Buccee's style independently owned station off a few exits.

NY doesn’t have contractors who could have done the job????

Hunter’s been driving the NYS Thruway?

Prior to those buildings opening, there were no services at many of the rest stops for at least two, if not more years. I don’t understand how a company in Ireland got the project to build and run those rest stops, nor the Canadian firm that built them. I want to know how much money Kathy Hochul got in illegal foreign campaign funds from these out of country firms for them to win those contract bids. Foreign countries shouldn’t even be allowed to bid on construction and business projects in NY State, or any State. These places weren’t built without money exchanging somebody’s hands.

Back when I was a kid the were Howard Johnson’s every so often on the highways. No need for government rest stops.
They’re all gone now. Not sure why.

I’ve got family paying $10,000 to $20,000 per year in property taxes in NYS
I recently rode with family from Connecticut to the Hudson River As soon as we got off the Merrit in conn and were on the Cross westchester in NY the roads were rough, potholed, disgusting. Those politicians are pocketing and disallocating that money as sure as my coffee was spilling
It is outrageous that they rip off New Yorkers like this

What lame title. Cracks in what? The buildings? The roads? or something else. This is how these kids learn in college these days.

Same here. I have rental properties and I pay well over $11K. This is in a “depressed” once bedroom community for Xerox.
The roads from Buffalo to Albany stink.

That's one of the reasons I'm glad I never bought a home, especially now that I'm 78.
NY RAT politicians are good at using taxpayer dollars to reward their big donors via projects like this. Andrew Cuomo was an expert at it.

Same thing that happened to a lot of family owned companies. Once they were no longer owned by the family but by some big conglomerate they quit paying attention to the small details that made people keep coming back.
And then they die.

They should just do what Oklahoma did. They shut down all our rest stops temporarily. How temporary? Then they demolished them.
Now, you drive across Oklahoma for miles with the kids saying, "Daddy! I gotta go pee pee! Now!"
Best of luck with that. Okies are flat stupid.

Cracks or no cracks, NY state rest stops are the filthiest in the country...
A Greyhound bus station restroom is pristine in comparison...
