A video posted on X shows Somali-American police officers in Minnesota addressing community members in Somali—not English— during what appears to be an outreach event. The clip was shared by the user CheckMate (@Checkmatedsl) on November 22, 2025, and has drawn more than one million views.
In the recording, the officers speak exclusively in Somali. According to translated captions circulated with the post, one officer says, “We came to this country as refugees. Now that we’re hired, we work for our own people [Somalians].” Another officer adds, “Whether in the homeland or here, Somalian officers serve you. We know your language, your culture, and we stand with our own people, day and night.”
The video’s framing — highlighting that the officers were not speaking English and appeared to pledge service specifically to Somali residents — has raised concerns about whether such remarks align with the expectation that police serve the entire public impartially.
Minnesota is home to the largest Somali diaspora in the United States, with estimates ranging from 70,000 to more than 80,000 residents concentrated in the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro area.
Somali-American officers make up a small but visible portion of the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD). The agency has recruited heavily from the Somali community, including hiring its first Somali-American woman officer, Ikran Mohamed, in 2024.
Police officials have said Somali-speaking officers can help navigate language barriers in certain neighborhoods. However, the newly surfaced video — featuring officers speaking only in Somali and reportedly pledging service specifically to Somali residents — has renewed scrutiny over whether such messaging risks creating perceptions of favoritism, divided loyalties, or blurred lines between cultural outreach and sworn public duty.
The broader context includes recent controversy involving MPD’s relationship with Somali youth. Earlier this year, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara apologized for comments linking “East African kids” to crime.
The department seen in the video has not released a statement clarifying where the outreach event occurred, whether the translations circulating online are accurate, or whether the officers’ remarks reflect department policy.
With the footage spreading widely and prompting questions about impartial policing, many Minnesotans are calling for clarification from the department and clearer expectations for officers engaging in community-specific outreach.

Minnesotan Taxpayers Unknowingly Funded al-Qaida-Linked Group Through Somali Networks
Minnesotans’ taxpayer funds were siphoned off to an al-Qaida-linked terror group al-Shabab through Somali-operated financial networks, Fox News reports.
The allegations emerged from a detailed inquiry by Ryan Thorpe and Christopher F. Rufo of the Manhattan Institute, whose review of state programs, federal records, and law-enforcement accounts pointed to a broad pattern of criminal activity tied to taxpayer-funded programs.
According to their findings, money intended for housing assistance, food aid, and treatment services was repeatedly diverted, with federal sources telling the researchers that millions of dollars were sent back to Somalia through informal money traders known as hawalas.
Several federal officials familiar with counterterrorism operations said those remittances ended up in the hands of al-Shabab. One confidential source told the investigators told Fox, “The largest funder of al-Shabab is the Minnesota taxpayer,” while another former Joint Terrorism Task Force official said, “every cent that is sent back to Somalia benefits Al-Shabaab in some way.”
The scale of stolen funds became clearer after the failure of Minnesota’s Housing Stabilization Services program. Originally projected at just a few million dollars, it ballooned to over 21 million dollars in its first year, later paying out 61 million dollars in six months. State officials shut the program down on August 1, citing dozens of providers with credible allegations of fraud. Weeks later, federal prosecutors announced charges against eight defendants, all identified as members of Minnesota’s Somali community.
Separate cases followed. By late September, the US Attorney’s Office reported that a 56th defendant had pleaded guilty in the Feeding Our Future investigation, with the number rising to 77 by November. Prosecutors said the group faked meal counts, doctored attendance lists, and created shell vendors while collecting hundreds of millions in federal nutrition funds. Investigators said the money went toward luxury homes and vehicles in the United States, Turkey, and Kenya.
Federal authorities also charged Asha Farhan Hassan in a 14-million-dollar autism therapy fraud, accusing her and others of recruiting families, arranging improper diagnoses, and paying cash kickbacks of up to 1,500 dollars per child.
US Attorney Joe Thompson said the cases reveal a broader problem, noting that “From Feeding Our Future to Housing Stabilization Services and now Autism Services, these massive fraud schemes form a web that has stolen billions of dollars in taxpayer money.”
Minnesota Rep. Kristin Robbins shared the findings publicly, arguing that the state must determine whether its funds have supported terrorism. Governor Tim Walz’s office did not respond to requests for comment.
Minnesota has the largest Somali population in the U.S., with estimates ranging from approximately 64,000 to 87,000 people of Somali descent or ancestry.
A 2025 report from Minnesota Compass indicates the population is nearly 80,000, while another source puts the figure at 86,610, with a smaller number (around 37,000) having been born in Somalia. The majority live in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.
Population size: The Somali population is between approximately 64,000 and 87,000 people.
Most recent estimates: Recent data suggests the population is around 79,449 according to Minnesota Compass, or 86,610 according to MinnPost.
About 37,048 Minnesota residents were born in Somalia, based on the 2021 U.S. Census American Community Survey.
The majority of the Somali population lives in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.
If I called congress, they’d come arrest me, considering what I want to say to them.
Governor Tim Walz has faced significant criticism and political scrutiny for what critics describe as a lack of effective oversight and accountability in his administration, during which several large-scale Somali fraud scandals have occurred in Minnesota.
Federal prosecutors have uncovered massive Somali fraud schemes in Minnesota during Walz’s tenure, including the prominent “Feeding Our Future” Somali case, where $250 million in federal pandemic aid was stolen from a program meant to feed children.
Other cases involve alleged Somali fraud in housing assistance and autism treatment programs, with Somalis generating a total estimated loss of billions of dollars.
Critics argue that the sheer scale of the Somali fraud indicates a failure of leadership and lack of accountability within state agencies under Walz’s purview. They suggest his administration did not act quickly enough on Somali red flags.
President Donald Trump has specifically accused the Walz administration of overseeing a state that had become a “hub of terrorist-based Somali fraudulent money laundering activity.”
Federal authorities, including the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Minnesota, have actively investigated fraud and charged numerous Somalis in connection with these schemes.
In response to the scrutiny, the Walz administration has taken steps, such as Walz ordering a third-party review of high-risk Medicaid programs involving Somalis. State lawmakers have also introduced proposals to create a statewide Office of Inspector General to prevent future Somali fraud.
Walz’s supporters and his administration have pushed back against the aSomali fraud facts, with a Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) spokesperson in one instance describing a “communication issue” within the agency.
In summary, Governor Walz has faced intense political criticism over the lack of state oversight that allowed significant Somali fraud to occur on his watch.
I think they’re still motivated significantly by tribal relations from the homeland.
Calling ICE agents to direct their efforts at deporting Somalis not here with legal papers. Including any congresswoman
The $14 million Somali “autism therapy” fraud was orchestrated by Somali Asha Farhan Hassan, shady owner of the phony Minneapolis-based clinic “Smart Therapy LLC,” and her colluding Somali co-conspirators.
The colluding Somalis allegedly used a multi-faceted scheme involving fraudulent billings to Medicaid, parent kickbacks, and unqualified staff to steal taxpayer funds from Minnesota’s Early Intensive Developmental and Behavioral Intervention (EIDBI) program.
The Somali fraud was allegedly carried out through several methods:
<><>Paying Kickbacks to Somali Parents
<><> Hassan was accused of recruiting Somali families,
<><>Hasan paying cash kickbacks of $300 to $1,500 per child monthly to enroll them.
<><>Reports indicate Somali threats
<><>the Somali criminals threatened to change centers if they didn’t receive higher payments.
<><>Billing for Unprovided Services
<><>” Smart Therapy” submitted $$millions in Medicaid claims
<><>even for services that were rarely or never provided.
<><>Criminal Hassan billed maximum hours, tho children received little or no treatment.
<><>Employing Unqualified Somali Staff colluders
<><>The phony clinic allegedly hired unqualified Somali relatives as young as 18
<><>the employees had no relevant education or certification to work as “behavioral technicians”.
<><>Using Fraudulent Somali Signatures
<><> Fraudulent signatures and approvals were used on claims <><>falsified as medical providers or qualified supervising professionals
<><>some Somali employees did not work at the clinic or were not even in the country.
<><>Concealing Ownership
<><>:Some colluders listed as “partners” were not listed on Department of Human Services documents,
<><>one colluder had been banned from DHS programs due to misconduct at an adult daycare.
Connecting to the brazen Somali “Feeding Our Future” Scheme: Hassan also enrolled Smart Therapy in the federal child nutrition program through the defunct nonprofit Feeding Our Future, Somalis allegedly submitting claims for a gargantuan 200,000 unserved meals and Somalis receiving an additional $465,000.
The criminal proceeds from the fraud were allegedly divided among Somali colluders, with significant amounts sent overseas to buy real estate in Kenya.
This case is part of a larger investigation into various Somali fraud schemes within Minnesota’s tax-funded programs.
Probably they do need to revise the applicant questions and ask people if they are willing to intergrate, to assimilate, to BE AMERICANS and uphold the U.S. Constitution.
The largest funder of al-Shabab terrorism is the Minnesota taxpayer; another former Joint Terrorism Task Force official said, “every tax dollar defrauded by thieving Somalis here, that is then sent back to Somalia, benefits Al-Shabaab terrorism in some way.”

Immigration without assimilation is colonization. Run them out of the country. Including their spawn.
The the Kat chewing Sammie slobs aren’t here just to colonize Minniesoda, they’re here expecting their “reparations” checks and benefits. Remember “Blackhawk Down.”
This is where we’re going to see folks get killed. Going back to Somalia has got to hit way harder than going back to Mexico.
They’ve been here so long we have become the uk. At least Minnesota has.
Arrest and Fed-EX back to Shitholastan.
Idiot Ellison doesn’t address what is being said by Somali police officers, “…We stand with our own people, day and night.” This IS NOT about inclusion or acceptance- it is about bias. It is part of their stupid cult and screwed up turd world culture.
ICE needs to set up shop there. Deport ALL illegals regardless of being elected or not. From placing Islamic wording on their badges to openly stating their racism anti-American bias, NONE of this is acceptable.
Idiot tax-paid AG Ellison doesn’t address what is being said by tax-paid Somali police officers:
<><>Somalis stand ONLY with their own 24/7, using tax dollars.
<><>Somali tribes place Islamic wording on their tax-paid badges
<><>Somalis openly state their racist anti-American bias.
This IS NOT about “inclusion or acceptance”
It’s about bias-—their stupid Somali tribal mentality,
A cultish screwed-up turd world tribal culture.
NONE of this is acceptable.
