FReeper Input Requested. Hearing aids
myself | 1/20/2025 | Self

Posted on 11/20/2025 4:43:32 AM PST by mad_as_he$$

FReeper input requested. I am in need of hearing aids. I have researched many online and found that one can spend up to $10,000 on a hearing aid program. My ear, nose and throat doctor has a business with hearing aids as their primary products I have listened to their spiel and I'm not convinced it for $6,000 or even $4,000 for one of their programs is a deal. I'm not in need of seeing the audiologists every 6 months and getting an adjustment, I'm capable of doing that myself.

What I want: Rechargeable. Bluetooth. Reasonably stealth. Reasonably priced $400 to $500???

Any other features that you can add would be appreciated.

TIA

In April my left ear became profoundly deaf overnight! I had hoped it was a clogged ear but it may have been a virus. The audiologist said $4000 for hearing aids.

I thought of Audien brand of hearing aids, and bought the $97 model and then the $398 model. For me they work very well. I only use the left one, which is small and invisible. If I use the right one where the ear is fairly normal, it would be too loud.

I have OTC hearing aids from Jabra. They can be purchased online. You will need to upload an audiogram, which can be done at https://hearingtest.online. I found that online audiogram to be consistent with a hearing test I had done at a Sams Hearing Center and also an ENT. I paid about $1700 for my hearing aids and really like them. They are small and don’t occlude ambient sounds.

How AirPods function as hearing aids
Customization: The “Hearing Aid” feature adjusts sound based on your hearing loss. You can use an iPhone or iPad to perform a hearing test or input results from a professional audiogram.

MD Hearing $300.00 hearing aids work as good as the $7000.00 hearing aids which are $2000.00 aids upcharged by an Audiologist.

i need them and I asked someone at church who’s in a medical practice, and he suggested going to Costco.

Mr mm researched it and found they carried the brand name ones for about a quarter of the price as an audiologist would charge. We’re looking into it next week when we’re near one (visiting my son)

What mr mm read was that between the brand names, there’s very little difference between brands and that one audiologist online said your satisfaction with the hearing aids depends more on the person programming it than the particular brand. And that makes sense to me. Same thing can be said of getting glasses with a new prescription.

I just got mine a couple of weeks ago, and I will tell you exactly what my doctor told me, and he saved me thousands from what the local hearing aid companies around here wanted to charge me.

For $100 bucks, join Costco.

I got a great set, top of the line, for $1,599.99 complete including the best hearing test I’ve ever had.

The only choice is Costco.
Good quality at 1/3 the price of others.

Given your price range requirements, your best option is the Apple AirPods Pro 2.

Second best is the Elehear Beyond Pro.

Check out Lexie hearing aids. They’re a little more expensive, at about $800 or so, but they Bluetooth. I have had mine for about 3-4 years.

Check this site out. This guy has reviewed hundreds of over-the-counter hearing aids. Yes he is a salesman, but he accurately and truthfully gives the pros and cons of hearing aids you can order online.

I have gotten Lucid hearing from Sam’s Club twice, with a big name brand in between. I prefer Sam’s.

Good luck. It is a challenge.

Do you use AirPods? They’re advertised for people who suffer from mild to moderate hearing loss. They look really cumbersome.
