JD Vance pointed out that the only thing that kept the Democrats from eliminating the filibuster when they had controlled Congress was Sinema and Manchin. Both are gone. The filibuster is gone the instant the Democrats take Congress again - if Republicans refuse to eliminate now, while they hold Congress, they deserve to lose forever.

The problem with nuking the filibuster is that feckless Republicans won't do a damn thing with all of that awesome power once they have it.

The Democrats will, though.

Last time the Dems had control of the Senate their motion to end the filabuster wqs defeated by 2 Dem senators 0 now gone. Next tine they will end it if the Spineless GOP does not do it now.

The Dems are already planing what they will do after they end it: pack SCOTUS, add DC and PR as states for starters - that will give them permanent control of the Senate and likely the House as well.

Here’s how to play hardball: Senate rule changes only require a majority vote. Eliminate the filibuster rule now and spend the next 3+ years passing MAGA legislation, including spending reforms, voter integrity, etc. When the RATs win back the senate, reinstate the filibuster before they are sworn in and change the Senate rules to require a 60 vote majority to eliminate the filibuster rule.

yep, eliminate it and then immediately pass an election integrity law by simply majority mandating all states verify citizenship for all elections and all social services. And making it clear illegal aliens are not guaranteed emergency room service regardless of ability to pay.

I very much acknowledge that the next rat senate likely nukes it anyway...

So maybe it’s the least bad option, IDK.

However, I will never stop SMH over nuking the filibuster to pass a *CONTINUING BUDGET RESOLUTION!*

Less than a year to go until what looks like it could be a very challenging midterm?

Maybe if we had some guaranteed 50 vote agreements + House consensus on important legislation, but I’m not seeing anything like that.

I just cannot see the wisdom behind using the nuclear option for a kick-the-can CR.

Trump needs to deport as many illegals as possible before the 2026 midterm election. Fewer votes for the RATs.

This is not difficult. Just end it for CR votes only, same as for budget reconciliation matters.

President Donald Trump has demanded that Senate Republicans eliminate the filibuster, which many senators regard as important to protect the Senate’s minority party.

As I've said before, the problem is not the filibuster cloture vote, it's the 17th amendment.

It's not the minority "party" that used to be protected, it was the minority of states that was being protected (and by extension, the legislatures that appointed their Senators).

Everything got warped and twisted with the 17th amendment made the parties' interestests became dominant over the states' interests.

I haven’t thought of Laura Ingraham in many years - since I ditched Fox a decade ago.

I used to think she was great on her afternoon radio show.
Her Fox News spot was a big step down I thought - seemed like she had less independence to speak her mind. Same with Hannity.

Then she started getting cosmetic surgery and looked nothing like the original Laura.

Her next big mistake was her obsession with that weirdo Raymond Aroyo(?) who was a regular guest - god knows why. Nobody ever heard of him except her - I never once saw him except on her show. So strange. She acted as if he was some kind of authority on every subject.. I guess she was banging him and wanted to pluck him out of obscurity and make him a household name - but it didn’t work. .

Other than that I had no problem with her, but ever since I quit Fox News I lost track of her.

She gave a pretty good pro-Trump speech at the 2016 Republican convention, I’ll give her that - but that was 9 years ago.

I agree with President Trump on this issue.

The democrats will definitely stop the filibuster when they get the senate again. Count in it.

We need to get our agenda through and stop playing nice with them.
