Fox News host Laura Ingraham urged Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) and other Senate Republicans to eliminate the filibuster, lest the GOP “get wiped out” in the next year’s midterm elections.
The federal government has been shut down since Oct. 1, after the Senate could not agree on a bill to keep the government funded beyond September. While the GOP controls the chamber 53-47, 60 votes are necessary to invoke cloture to break filibusters and advance legislation. In exchange for the requisite votes, Democrats are demanding that Republicans agree to extend healthcare premium subsidies under the Affordable Care Act, which are set to expire at the end of the year. Republicans have refused.
President Donald Trump has demanded that Senate Republicans eliminate the filibuster, which many senators regard as important to protect the Senate’s minority party.
On Friday’s episode of The Ingraham Angle, the host asked Marshall about the prospects for its elimination.
“Senator, Republicans – especially the more establishment Republicans – are very, very wedded to this idea of holding onto the filibuster with a death grip,” Ingraham said before alleging that if Democrats regain power, they will eliminate the rule. “Do you believe, given what this country and our people are facing, that it is time for the Republican Party to ditch the filibuster and start doing things for the American people?”

Democrats are going to get rid of it anyway.
That’s what people don’t get, the Democrats are going to do what they are going to do, regardless of what the Republicans do.
if they get rid of the filibuster, then why even have a Senate??? It becomes obsolete then. Its just an extension of the House. This country wil tear itself apart if EITHER side does this.
The GOP is too damn feckless to do this, even though everyone agrees this is the BEST way to pass Trump’s agenda..do the save act and ensure that illegals dont vote in elections
If ever there was a time to eliminate the filibuster it is now. The R’s can say they’re only doing it to protect lives and to prevent lasting damage to the economy. Perfect justifications under the circumstances.
Excellent post.
I agree with President Trump on this issue.
The democrats will definitely stop the filibuster when they get the senate again. Count in it.
We need to get our agenda through and stop playing nice with them.
Up until now l felt as you do but l am actually warming to the idea.
so Laura now plays Nostradamus?
It might be a pipe dream, but anything the Democrats enact after getting rid of the Filibuster can be reversed with a simple majority when the Republicans gain power.
The question I ask is the current funding stalemate worthy of getting the rid of the filibuster to end the stalemate.
IMO, this is a minor stalemate where Democrats are stomping their feet like a spoiled child because they are not getting what they want. Make the Democrats continue shutting down the government that is much more damaging that anything the Republicans gain by ending the filibuster.
“And then they’ll just do the same.”
Unlikely, because under my plan, the RATs would now need 60 votes to change the filibuster rule.
Yep. End it. Do the work. Get it all signed into law. If Dems get back in, you senators are going to jail. They already tapped your phone lines. Stop being afraid of what ifs.
If the Republicans had a total revamp of Obamacare that would actually lower the cost of healthcare insurance and the Democrats were blocking it because of the Filibuster, then you would have a case to end the Filibuster.
I don’t see that big issue that would help advance the MAGA agenda and lower the cost of living for Americans that would be gained by eliminating the filibuster now.
The GOP is adamant about keeping the filibuster because they can’t even get 50 votes on most of these consequential bills in the Senate.
Well, if they use it correctly......
They can just remove the filibuster for appropriations or funding bills. They don’t need to nuke it for other bills.
They need to keep the filibuster as something of a check on Democrat overreach whenever they have the majority. Of course the Democrats may abolish it in the near future if they get a majority. Maybe Fetterman won't vote with them.
Yeah if..
