There’s a peculiar phenomenon in nature where lemmings supposedly march off cliffs in mass suicide. While that myth has been debunked, something eerily similar is happening in New York City, where voters appear ready to elect their own economic executioner.
Zohran Mamdani, the 34-year-old democratic socialist, commands a commanding 15-point lead in the mayoral race, polling at 46 percent to Andrew Cuomo’s 31 percent. His platform reads like a Bernie Sanders fever dream: rent freezes, free bus services, fully-funded daycare, city-owned grocery stores, and a $30 minimum wage. Young voters under 30 give him an astronomical 35-point advantage.
The Uganda-born assemblyman, who attended a Manhattan private school now charging $66,000 annually—let that sink in for a moment—plans to fund his socialist utopia through a 2 percent tax on millionaires and hiking corporate rates from 7.25 to 11.5 percent. Who better to lead the working class revolution, right? Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have been stumping for him at packed rallies, presenting him as the future of the Democratic Party.
But here’s where the story takes a stunning turn. The same New Yorkers preparing to hand Mamdani the keys to City Hall believe he’s going to burn it down. A Daily Mail/JL Partners poll revealed that 47 percent of voters think crime and violence will worsen under his leadership, with only 32 percent believing the city will be safer.
The numbers get worse: 43 percent expect businesses to shutter and flee, while 45 percent predict antisemitism will increase—remarkably, even among Mamdani’s own supporters, more think he’ll worsen rather than improve antisemitic violence.
From ‘Daily Mail’:
Asked for one word to describe what the Big Apple would be like after four years of his left-wing policies, the most common response from non-Mamdani voters was ‘disaster.’ They also said a Mamdani-run New York would be ‘chaos,’ ‘hell,’ ‘broken,’ and a ‘s***hole.’
(Their words, not mine—though I can’t say I disagree.) The poll found 39 percent expect terrorism risks to increase. Even Democrats are split, with a third believing crime will rise and a quarter predicting more terrorism. These aren’t Republican talking points—these are the fears of Mamdani’s own base. Yet despite predicting their city will spiral into a “dystopian nightmare” reminiscent of 1980s urban decay, complete with subway murders and boarded-up storefronts, they’re marching toward November 4th ready to pull the lever for him anyway.
Here’s what kills me about this whole thing. This is the Democratic Party’s post-2024 masterstroke. After losing to Trump, rather than moderating toward the center, they’ve lurched harder left, with Sanders and AOC now steering the ship. They’ve learned exactly the wrong lesson. Instead of recognizing that Americans rejected their radical agenda, they’ve convinced themselves they simply weren’t radical enough. What are they thinking? Actually, that’s the problem—they’re not.
What’s unfolding in New York is a preview of the Democrats’ national suicide pact. Voters who openly acknowledge their chosen candidate will crater the economy, spike crime, and drive out businesses are proceeding anyway because ideology trumps self-preservation. They’d rather rule over ruins than compromise their progressive principles.
When Mamdani wins next week—and he will win—it won’t just be New York’s funeral. It’ll be the beginning of the Democratic Party’s nationwide embrace of policies their own voters know will fail. They see the cliff. They’re jumping anyway. And they’re dragging the rest of us with them.

May they all get what they so richly deserve.
Polling only muslims ?
Its the problem of democracy, combined with our debt-based, fiat money
NY city is mostly democrat, due to years of bloated, progressive government. So whoever becomes the Democrat nominee is very likely to become mayor. Yet only 10% of voters vote in the Democrat primary. That makes it relatively easy for radicals to “get out the vote” - and for foreign elements and wealthy/organized leftists to put up an extreme candidate and push him/her over the top with money.
Even in the primary election, historically only about 23-24% of eligible voters actually vote, although this year may be higher. Even in such a contested election, Mamdani will not even achieve a majority.
So Mamdani will NOT be elected by a majority of New Yorkers - not even close. He will only be elected by an organized, aggressive and loud minority.
“plans to fund his socialist utopia through a 2 percent tax on millionaires”
Which will already have moved out of new York state before he ever has the chance......and oh by the way, don’t state legislators have a little say in all those grand plans?
The Big Crapple
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. NYC needs an enema.
Leftist radicals always have to learn the hard way and then they just blame the other side anyway.
They can see a speeding locomotive coming right for them but they’re too stupid to get out of the way?
Doesn’t this contradiction suggest that something may be brewing here? What New Yorker would tell anyone he was voting for someone other than the perceived moral certainty? I’ve been saying Mamdani may not have it in the bag. I just find it hard to believe that NY is that far gone. We’ll see. Turnout turnout turnout…
And November 1, looting of grocery stores are subject to begin. You want to see a disaster, wait until vigilantes are roaming the streets to wage war on looters.
Do you think this is true?
"It’ll be the beginning of the Democratic Party’s nationwide embrace of policies their own voters know will fail. They see the cliff. They’re jumping anyway. And they’re dragging the rest of us with them."Or will it re-invigorate the Democrats and they will then rush even more headlong toward communism?
43 to 45 thinking it is going to get worse is not the 50 you need to win.
COULD NOT CARE LESS.
I hope NYC crashes and burns. No population deserves it more.
Lord Of The Flies II.
Younger people, 45 and under, actually expect the country to fail and are happy to see someone burn things down.
That’s one of the reasons I’m going to enjoy watching the commie muzzie burn NYC.
Mamdani is a leftist, so let’s vote for a slightly less leftist! That’ll work wonders for NYC....
Do these clowns think they are going to have all of the nice things they have if the country fails?
“Do these clowns think they are going to have all of the nice things they have if the country fails?”
I find that they are unable to think that far ahead. What they know is capitalism is unfair, and that they are being held down by the system. Thank you public schools.
Companies are probably already searching for new digs in NJ.
