Let’s talk about the deal.
For two years, Gaza’s position was that it won’t release the hostages without a full withdrawal and a permanent ceasefire. Today they gave up on both key objectives.
The IDF is still in Gaza and negotiations will start only after the release of the hostages. An unkind voice would call it surrendering and I’ve never been accused of kindness towards the enemy.
So what happened?
Israel dropped a few bombs on Qatar.
Suddenly, the puppet master behind Hamas discovered that he was not immune. Qatar was just another Arab country that Israel bombed at will. The emir of Qatar realized that there’s a chance, a very small chance, but a chance nevertheless, that Israel will just plain kill him.
Yes, the world will be very mad but that won’t help him, will it now?
This realization that they’re not gods, just another bunch of stinking Bedouins made Qatar pressure Hamas to end the war in unfavorable terms. They don’t care about two million Arabs in Gaza but they care very much about themselves. They were willing to fight to the last Palestinian but losing literally a single Qatari made them give up.
This is the only explanation for Hamas’s sudden change of heart after steadfastly insisting on their principles through two years of unprecedented destruction and suffering.
The people of Gaza should take note that their elected government couldn’t care less about them but even the smallest threat to Qatar made it surrender. This shows who they truly serve.
Now, those of you who’ve been following me for a while know I’m against prisoners-for-hostages exchange deals because they encourage terrorists to kidnap more of your citizens. I’m even more against land-for-hostages exchange deals as these all but force the enemy to kidnap your citizens.
Israelis travel often and our enemies are spread all over the world. This puts at risk not only Jews in Israel but Jews all over the world. It’s a shortsighted and sentimental approach.
However, this is a philosophical issue. One that very few people in this country share with me. And honestly, this is a way of thinking that’s unthetitcal to modern Judaism so I won’t belabor the point.
That being said, Trump’s 20-point plan makes this deal unique by basically bringing back the British mandate. Why, he even found a British governor for the new mandate. If it first you don’t succeed…
Now, look at the ceasefire in Lebanon.
It’s very different from the terrible deal of 2006. Why? Because it put Israel in charge of the enforcing mechanism. Since the deal was struck, Israel killed hundreds of Hezbollah operatives that broke the deal, destroyed hundreds of weapon stockpiles and Hezbollah didn’t fire a single shot back.
Things are changing. Don’t be consumed by fatalism. Like the Beatles said, “Give war a chance.”
This doesn’t mean we need to let our guard down. The war is not over. It will never be over. We are the mote in Islam’s eye. There can be no peace with the enemy, only a hudna, a temporary truce for the purpose of winning the war later.
However, unlike the previous times, this is a good hudna.
Oh, and several people asked me how I replied to the disgusting letter I’ve received from the French RPG site yesterday. Here’s my reply:

This is a unique take that I have not seen anywhere else. That Israel bombing Qatar lead to Hamas throwing in the towel.
Iran and Qatar were the mega-funders of Hamas. Iran had to drop their Hamas adventure after the USA-Israel wacked Iran hard 2x months ago.
So only Qatar was left to supply Hamas with funding. One bombing/missile attack from Israel and Qatar stopped this mischief.
There are many of us who thinks this showed PDJT in his “most bestest Art of the Deal mode”. :-)
He of course knew about the Israeli attack - and in all likelihood approved. However, after the attack the US administration, and the Israelis denied any US fore knowledge, of course. And President Trump scolded Netanyahu and had him apologize to the Emir. However, the ruler of Qatar who has lived all his life in the Arab world knew exactly what that meant. That he was disposable. And PDJT explained what had to be done; and pressure was put on Hamas.
Not that difficult since the Hamas billionaires are living in Qatar. Probably the most difficult was to make the Hamas leaders force the Hamas terrorists in Gaza to give up their hostages, but I assume pressure was put on them via their families or some such like...
“So what happened?”
All things being equal...
...I’d put $$ on the table on something likely no one could ever prove:
I bet that one of the key idiots in qatari officialdom awoke to the equivalent of a horsehead in their bed at some point after the bombing.
Hence ‘the deal’
Yep, Bibi calls up Qatar after that bomb dropped and said - so sorry we killed one of your guys by accident, good thing it wasn’t you Emir.
Interesting how Trump probably knew about it all and just let it play out.
