Pretty much like every country that was largely settled by Europeans in the last four centuries.

The United States of America may have slowed down their headlong rush into intentional destruction and third world dictatorship by electing Trump, but I imagine that post-Trump the leftists will redouble their efforts to make slaves of us all, and probably succeed at that..

Is the Canadian disease infectious? It looked that way during #46.

“Canada is often portrayed as a land of freedom”

Right out of the gate, I stopped reading there.

The author mentions “carbon” in passing only two times. The ludicrous “green”energy policies in resources rich Canada deserve a lot more attention, especially what those policies do to Canadian economic competitiveness. Fortunately, Canada can still produce lots of cheap hydro, power.

“Canada is often portrayed as a land of freedom”

Maybe up until the 1930’s. After that all bets were off. Harper tried to stem the tide but Canadians weren’t on board. Then Trudeau sunk Canada further into the abyss.

I have a good friend who is Canadian, he is afraid to travel to Canada. He thinks it is possible they won’t allow him out of there once in. He is a MSNBC fan BTW.

My Albertan born daughter-in-law ran out of Canada 25 years ago and never looked back.

And these are the people who used to look down their noses at us.

In Canada, the law differentiates between food items prepared at a restaurant and food items brought at a grocery store. Cooked meals are taxed, and each province has a different rate. Also, all the items in a vending machine are taxed, even if they are otherwise zero-rated basic grocery items.

I ran into this odd tax the last time I went to Canada. In addition to the regular taxes on a meal the last showed the above. I asked the waitress, a very nice lady, what that was. She informed this "was an additional tax because this is a restaurant and the government can do this." She liked it no better than I did. I wish British Columbia without Vancouver, Alberta, and Saskatchewan would join the USA. British Columbia is like California, Oregon, and Washington State. The large population is on the Pacific Coast and uber liberal. The rest of those states are conservative.

Like I often say... Canada is a third world country.

Actually no. It is a first world nation on its way to a third world dictatorship by design of their insane left politicians. They are evil.

During my oilfield days I worked with a lot of oilfield hands, both in the USA and Internationale, from Calgary They were conservatives with a funny accent. They were always ready for a drink and a party. Their beer sucked just like ours in the 70s. However, today Canada has many micro brewers as in the USA and they turn out great Ales etc. as do our micro brewers in the USA.

When I returned home from England and knew what good beer was I could not drink American beer and drank Modelo Negra a Mexican Ale. It was good but not brilliant. Today I can go to my local grocery and chose from many micro breweries ales and other brews. I can also drive 3.5 miles from my house and sit in a local brewery beside their vats and drink great brew. The last thing the brew master across the bar wants to hear is "this sucks." My local makes great brew.

Not to mention that you need 13 different licenses to even store a 22 rifle in a safe ...sepaate from ammunition of course. And God forbid you use it against home invaders...your ass is grass!

Canada is often portrayed as a land of freedom, opportunity, and prosperity.

Compared to Somalia, it is.

And they did not mention in this article the draconian attempt to disarm law abiding Canadains , taking firearms use away concerning semi auto rifles Canadians have legally owned for 5 generations.

If anything this article understates what Trudeau and Carney have done to wreck Canada.

I have extended family in Canada. Visiting them is nice because they live in a very rural part of New Brunswick. I guess just about any country or state has nice places if you can escape the big city madness. The high prices (with built in taxes) are about the only negative I see when I’m there.

The folks who live there complain a lot about the government, all while espousing that the best “solution” is more government. They know that most of their problems are caused by government, but they fail to see that they’d be better off with less government intervention in their lives. And these are rural people who grew up on farms with an independent mindset much like farmers in rural Alabama. You’d think if anyone in Canada would have a belief in individualism it’d be them.
