The Challenges of a Ukrainian Peace

Let’s assume peace in Ukraine—granted, a very big-ticket axiom. In our premise, we may include the speculation that Ukraine has ceded, de facto if not formally, at least some of the territory conquered by Russia in the course of the last three years; those who insist that something like total Ukrainian victory is achievable sound suspiciously similar to those who thought the Afghanistan occupation was indefinitely sustainable, and may be safely disregarded for the sake of the exercise.

The question Trump has to ask himself is whether there’s any chance for the Neocons to reverse themselves and start taking the war to Russia, especially considering that Russia has to VERY BIG backstops - with China as one (they know they’re next if the Neocons win in Ukraine), and Russia’s own nukes being the second.

If the answer is no, it’s best to end the war as soon as possible, since more war only means more Russian gains and more dying on both sides.

China is the country which has benefited the most from the Ukraine/Russia war.

Ukraine has been the biggest loser, with Russia the second biggest loser, then the USA and Europe.

The Challenges of a Ukrainian Peace

The "Main" challenge to peace is Putin, who does not believe an independent Ukraine can/should exist.

Putin even wrote in 2021 a 7,000 word essay on why Ukrainian statehood was a "mistake' and is currently on Kremlin's official website.

As long as Putin feels his troops are advancing, even slowly, why should he seriously negotiate? Kremlin doesn't care about troop losses.

Think how much money can be stolen when the US is the main rebuilder of a Ukraine that is destroyed. We will be the ones paying for it.

“China is the country which has benefited the most from the Ukraine/Russia war. Ukraine has been the biggest loser, with Russia the second biggest loser, then the USA and Europe.”

Agree on China and Ukraine, but time will tell on the others. My view is, with the BRICS re-alignment getting stronger by the day, that Europe is the second biggest loser, then USA - due to being the driver bringing the BRICS countries together against us.

As to Russia, it depends on how the war ends - if they’re able to drive the Neocons out of the Black Sea, once and for all, by taking Odessa and the rest of Ukraine’s coastline, then Russia is the big winner. If not, then not very clear.

I doubt that, not during Trump’s term. US corporations may step in but Ukraine has absolutely no value, strategic, or otherwise to the US. It has been one big money laundering scheme, at our tax payers expense.

That said, I can see China easily getting involved in rebuilding Ukraine, for many reasons. Wouldn’t that be a hoot?

Pretty good article.

If there be a “peace” agreement, what comes after.

Certainly not peace.

Just because the killing stops, doesn’t mean you really have peace.

The Ukraine will become a battleground without a body count.

Ukraine has been the biggest loser, with Russia the second biggest loser, then the USA

For 175 billion spent on Ukraine, with a significant part of that being older weapons sent, US has achieved the destruction of half of the Russian military, without the loss of one US soldier.

The war has cost Russia enormously in damage to infrastructure and material costs.

A fair number of governments have lost power and been overthrown when the costs of war become to great. Afghanistan was important in the downfall of the Soviet Union. WWI was important in the overthrow of the Romanov dynasty.

Russian resources are not infinite.

The loss of manpower in the war is bad for Russia. It is doubtful they can make up the loss by taking over Ukraine.

You think America’s national defense is worse off than it was 4 years ago?

I think American, European, and Pacific national defense are all better off than they were 4 years ago, and that the combined total of all the improvements and the improvements to come from us and all of those allies, including the strategic gains from the new NATO members and the more conservative Europe, along with the weakening costs to Russia and what that means to China if they moved on us with Russia too weak to tie up a stronger NATO, are just a sampling of why America is the top beneficiary of this Russian/North Korean war.

At this moment it looks like when this is over, there will remain a free country of Ukraine.

Birds of a feather...

Adolf Hitler’s quotes about “Greater Germany” reflect his racist ideology of uniting all ethnic Germans into a single, expansionist empire. He laid out his core goals of territorial expansion and racial purity as early as his 1920 party platform and his book Mein Kampf.

Key quotes from Mein Kampf and Nazi policy
“People of the same blood should be in the same REICH.” In Mein Kampf, Hitler wrote that German-Austria “must be restored to the great German Motherland” and that the reunification of the two countries was a “life task to be carried out by all means!”.

“We demand the union of all Germans in a Greater Germany (Großdeutschland) on the basis of the right of national self-determination.” This demand was the very first point of the Nazi Party Platform, announced in 1920.

“We put an end to the perpetual Germanic march towards the South and West of Europe, and turn our eyes towards the lands of the East.” In Mein Kampf, Hitler explicitly stated that Germany would not restore its 1914 borders. Instead, the Nazis would pursue a new policy of territorial expansion, primarily targeting Russia and its border states. This was essential for Germany to become a world power.

On Lebensraum and expansion

Hitler’s concept of a Greater Germany was inextricably linked to the notion of Lebensraum (living space), which centered on the conquest and colonization of Eastern Europe for Germans. His strategy included the “ruthless Germanisation” of conquered lands, often involving the extermination or enslavement of the existing Slavic and Jewish populations.

In 1945, near the end of World War II, Hitler remained committed to this goal. In a letter to Field Marshal Wilhelm Keitel, he wrote:
“Our goal must still be the capture of living space in the East for the German nation.”

Public rhetoric

Hitler’s speeches often combined themes of national destiny and resentment over the Treaty of Versailles with triumphant celebrations of territorial gains.
“Within a single year, this dream has been successfully realized.” In a Reichstag speech, Hitler marked the one-year anniversary of Germany’s unification with Austria, framing it as a long-awaited destiny achieved through “fanatical struggle”.
“It is quite unimportant whether we ourselves live, but it is essential that our people shall live, that Germany shall live.” In an address just before the start of World War II, Hitler declared a resolve never to surrender, emphasizing the existential importance of the German nation over individual lives

Ukraine = Russia

How original.

Genocidally erasing the borders, language and cultural identity of the second biggest country in Europe is as Nazi as it gets. If the shoe fits...
