I thought so too. It is where the ball is when it crosses the plate and not where the catcher catches it. Without seeing it from above it is not easy to know if it clipped the plate as it was tailing.
Agree. It tailed a bit inside as it crossed the plate, but I don't think it was an egregiously bad strike call. I've seen plenty of pitch calls much worse than that from male umpires. Everyone needs to relax.
Senior citizens are playing "Pickle Ball", now all the adults are gambling and the kids are on their screens.
I’m not.... don’t even know this pickle ball... sounds a bit kinky to me... I’m out.
Strike zone should be fully automated. Probably will be within five years. Pitchers and hitters work way too hard at their craft to have an inconsistent strike zone screw things up. Plate umpire should get an audible ball/strike in an earpiece, or should have glasses that project the zone like you see on tv. No “challenges” like they’re messing with. Tech is way too good to not allow it in fully. Plate umpire can function as a backup if there are system issues.
Only logical retort I’ve heard is the home team playing shenanigans with it. Perhaps the tech is brought in and assigned to the crews themselves.
And the NFL should add a new “head referee” that is a group of three in the booth that can make or overturn calls with a quick unanimous buzz in.
If this was a guy it would be simply a bad call. It’s a woman and all of a sudden she’s not fit to be an umpire. I’d at least like to see her overall performance in the entire game and compare to the average. I’m sure there’s a “bad call” average.
Dear father’s, do us all a favor and love your daughters for being girls. Don’t make it obvious that you wanted a son.
LOL! That’s hysterically “historical”.
The umpire still calls balls and strikes during the game, and each team has two challenges. A call could be challenged by a pitcher, catcher or batter by tapping the hat or helmet. If the call was overturned, the team kept the challenge. If the call was upheld, the team lost one challenge. I was skeptical at first, but after watching a lot of games since then, I am not opposed to it.
I’m a lifelong baseball fan who has refused to watch my favorite sport for the past few years. Let them eat cake
True. The game was between the Marlins and Braves on Aug 9. I watched other games.
Women have been a disaster as generals, police chiefs, and judges. Umpires? What could go wrong?
I hear ya
Similar Woke Garbage has reduced my
slight interest in the NFL to near zero as well.
And then there’s NASCAR
Or you can reason that female umpires can make bad calls just like male umpires.
If it was supposed to be inside the box, it looks like it did, in a slicing move
Strike !
The player didn’t like the call ? Too bad. The ump and the ball/strike call has always been a fudge factor in the game.
Woman ump ? Meh, at least it isn’t a trans ump. I shouldn’t give them ideas.
I no longer follow the game , but I recall that some umps, earned reputations, not always good, as being blind, crooked , cross eyed , myopic, slobs, bums, etc. I see that the tradition of trashing the ump is still alive.
“How did she do in the game as a whole?”
Yeah—folks make mistakes sometimes:

“Jackson Lee asked if the Pathfinder succeeded in taking pictures of the American flag planted on Mars by Neil Armstrong in 1969.”
Lol.
Or Eric Gregg
We used to go to the city owned park and played baseball at night. We turned the lights on and off the field wasn’t all fenced up and locked. Free reign. Right in the middle of a neighborhood. No one gave a rats ass. That America is gone.
"Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, played on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net.
It is played using solid paddles and a perforated, hollow plastic ball, which produces less bounce than a tennis ball.
The game can be played in singles or doubles format, with a unique 7-foot non-volley zone near the net, often called "the kitchen," where players cannot volley the ball while standing inside.
The sport is known for its easy-to-learn rules, low-impact nature, and social appeal, making it accessible and popular for people of all ages and skill levels."
The greatest umpire and singer of all time.
