I watch sports for the players, not for the refs.
I watch to see how the players perform, not to see how the players perform when they are not stymied by incompetent refs causing them problems and negating their performance.
Call that “soul-less” if you want to. I would rather see a top hitter get another deserved swing during an at bat because he let the ball go outside of the official strike zone, than get called out because some outlier ref always calls that pitch a strike.
