The woman found not guilty by reason of insanity after running over a Chicago police officer with his own squad car is now asking the court to let her start anew—by changing her name.
Whitley Temple, who was acquitted last year of attempting to murder Officer Ed Poppish during a bizarre 2022 West Side encounter, filed a petition on July 11 to legally change her first name to “Michelle,” according to Cook County court records.
Temple fled the scene in the patrol car, briefly stopped at a gas station, then continued onto the Eisenhower Expressway, reaching speeds of 97 mph before exiting and crashing into multiple vehicles, prosecutors said.
Judge Tyria Walton ruled Temple, charged with attempted murder, carjacking, and other felonies, was not guilty by reason of insanity after a drawn-out bench trial that ended in May last year.
While awaiting trial, Temple secured a job as a lead accountant for the City of Chicago’s Department of Family and Support Services. She remained employed there while facing attempted murder charges. The city ended her employment after media reports made her situation public in early 2024.

Absolute lunacy! The City of Chicago hired the woman a short time later.
The judge is a racist for letting her off.
If the races were reversed, I doubt that would have happened.
Best solution is to fence off Chicago and let it implode. Use the police to defend the perimeter and prevent anyone from getting in or out.
Sum Ting Wong.
Well, what Chicago manager doesn’t want an exhibitionist as an employee?
So the newspaper just ruined her chances of starting over, wow.
Whitley Temple...Michelle Temple...nobody would ever make the connection.
So how much time did she spend in the sanitarium before being hired by the city?
While awaiting trial, it says.
Incident in 2022.
While awaiting trial, hired by the city.
Early 2024 - employment terminated.
May 2024 - found not guilty by reason of insanity.
Presumably not in the sanitarium now if ever.
No more Witless Whitley.
Sue was not insane. This is total fraud on her part.
Women and people in general using insanity defense should no longer be allowed. They can always find an idiot shrink to say that and absolve them of their responsibility and accountability.
And ok if you believe she is, then we lock her up for life for her safety and ours, because shes proven to be deadly violent and can snap at any moment or when things get tough.
Not enough time apparently.
RE: was not guilty by reason of insanity
One of my pet peeves.
They stay out of prison, fake some “recovery” with a naive shrink and get loose. A total con.
Outcome? Unbalanced mentally so no prison. Not even in a psych facility with security.
He has to visit a psychiatrist once a month for a year and live at home with his mother and she has to vouch for him and report weekly.
That’s punishment????
If she was deemed insane, why isn’t she locked up somewhere?
No, no, no - she’s has a mental illness and is therefore being brave and should be given extra benefits, including a job “working” for the city.
Heck, she should probably run for mayor while she’s at it - Sh*tcago couldn’t do any worse.
Right. But shes a woman, so thsts why.

Have you met his mother ?
If she was deemed insane, why isn’t she locked up somewhere?
In a sane world, she would get a 124gr lobotomy by the cops partner.
Crazy as a Fox. Also hard to find a decent photo of her.
Lastly, just what sort of skills does one need to become a lead accountant within one of the City of Chicago ‘s departments ?
She decided against it because she thought she would have to be able to tap dance, but mostly because she didn't want people asking her to sing "on the good ship lollipop".
I’d go with “Mookie”.
Chicongo lives!
