Eugene Daniels—What Would Slave-Owning Founders Think Of Blacks Hosting Show?
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 07/06/2025 1:24:09 PM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Was Eugene Daniels trying to top Kamala Harris in the Worst July 4th Take Stakes?

Harris posted on X:

“This Fourth of July, I am taking a moment to reflect. Things are hard right now. They are probably going to get worse before they get better."

On Sunday's edition of MSNBC's The Weekend, Daniels wondered out loud:

"I wonder what the Founding Fathers would think. You know, those slave-owning ones, about us [Daniels and Jonathan Capehart] on this show. But we're going to move on from that."

Too late to "move on," Eugene. You already made your bid to outdo Kamala in celebrating July 4th by dumping on America and its Founders.

Eugene Daniels: Happy 4th, everyone. The Founders included a bunch of slave-owning racists who would be horrified to see two black guys hosting this TV show!

Ping to Liberal Media Criticism list.

If it weren’t for racism, liberals wouldn’t have anything to talk about. Talking about racism is the liberal’s only contribution to Western civilization.

He’s just another “Step-N-Fetchit” for his White Liberal Masters.

First of all, I happen to know that George Washington never saw your show. He blocked MSNBC on his cable lineup. :-)

Eugene Daniels can ask the descendants of black Americans who owned slaves what their ancestors would think of black Americans hosting the show.

While he's at it, he can ask the descendants of the Native Americans who owned slaves also.

He can even ask the descendants of those who owned white slaves.

Let him ask current day slave holders what they think of it.

There’s another reason why Jonathan Capehart hosting a show would have surprised them ...

Sunny Hostin and Spike Lee are descendants of slave owners. Maybe they can summon their ancestors to offer some thoughts.

Barack Obama is a descendant of slave owners.

Martin van Buren ran in 1848 on the anti-slavery Free Soil ticket...but his father had been a slave owner.

The founding fathers would be horrified to see the ratings of this show. The FF were concerned with results.

In all seriousness, like everyone else, the founders were humans and a product of the society in which they lived. The truth is actually quite a bit more complex than the simplistic “slave owners - bad” mantra of the left. The truth is that many, if not most of the founders who owned slaves fully recognized the inherent contradiction between the ideals of our founding, the ideal of “All men are created equal” and the reality of slavery. Slavery was not nearly as widespread and ingrained into southern plantation society in the late 18th century as it would become a few decades later after the invention of the cotton gin. Slave labor was primarily used for production of cash crops like indigo, rice and tobacco that were hard on the fertility of the soil.

As a result the founders had every reason to believe that slavery would die a natural death over the ensuing decades after the Revolution. In order to maintain a fairly precarious unity, but one necessary to avoid being dominated by the European imperial powers, they punted in slavery. Obviously, in hindsight, this turned out to be a huge mistake, resulting in increased slavery over the next 80+ years and hundreds of thousands of deaths in a bloody civil war. But given what the founders knew about their society, they made the only choice they could to preserve the Union.

“I wonder what the Founding Fathers would think. You know, those slave owning ones, about us (Daniels and Jonathan Capehart) on this show.”

250 years on, the Founding Fathers would probably correctly conclude that the UnitedStates is truly fkd ..
