so a friend of mine sent me this for a laugh — but although I like watching cute videos of baby ducklings…ducks’ actual mating habits never occurred to me. (I wasn’t raised around a lot of nature.) So I looked it up and…Honestly, it’s really brutal. And female ducks - especially of the mallard kind? — can die from drowning or from the impact of the aggression? Sometimes a bunch of males will gang r*pe?
Ignorance is bliss…

Yeah I notice with most landlocked mammals (or reptiles) the aggression, if any, tends to be reserved between the males...Sometimes male ducks (drakes) will pluck each other’s feathers off to try to get their rival to look less attractive to the female…
But other times they don’t bother fighting each other, and instead band together to quite literally attack the female all at once…and if they are on water, there goes her neck underwater, strangled to the point of outright drowning sometimes to the point of death.
...and thanks to the 19th Amendment, her vote counts as much as the votes of normal people.
