"This next-generation fighter will provide exceptional new capabilities for our Air Force pilots. Reports suggest that the Pentagon is considering delaying the Navy’s next gen fighter, known as the F/A-XX, to prioritize the F-47 program.
This would be a mistake. We need them both. Fortunately, America’s aerospace industrial base is capable of manufacturing two fighter jets simultaneously. Doing so is critical to advancing President Trump’s peace-through-strength national security agenda."

The more fighter jets/drones the better. We should’ve made TWICE as many F-22’s. I agree with Trump that none of our jets should be single engine like the F-35, although apparently it’s very stealthy.
They were supposed to make 8 times as many f22s.
Amazing as it may sound, the F-22 is becoming functionally obsolete. The plane is in a strange place because it is dominant and will continue to be so for a long time to come.
It is, however , not equipped with the systems and design specs to implement the latest advances in technology or meet the most significant emerging threats. and to update the air frame to do so would cost nearly as much as clean sheet design.
Operating F-22s is a very expensive proposition so a larger fleet would divert assets from being allocated to the newer designs coming on line.
As it is, our F-22 fleet alone has more aircraft in inventory than most countries have in their entire air force which kind of puts things into perspective.
“...the Navy’s next gen fighter...will provide exceptional new capabilities for our Air Force (?) pilots.”
Or are there actually two of you out there?
Why? When exactly was the last time that any were challenged or shot down?
Drones are virtually irrelevant in the discussion. They can be built and replaced in a very short time frame. There is little need to have a massive supply when zero have been needed yet to date.
They did so good with the F-35 (/s /puke) which is useless so lets build something else.
DoD ask for X
Changes to Y when X is almost built
Change requirements that Y won’t work so you need Z
Congress goes after manufacturer for not meeting cost and schedule of X
Manufacturer says government changed it to Y then Z
DoD says Z can’t meet the requirements of X or Y so we need AA
Congress triples the budget and AA goes into development for 15 years... fails DT&E but goes on to OT&E and fails that then says they’ll fix it in the fleet after production
They can’t fix it in the fleet and it can’t meet requirements
DoD has a idea... ask for a new X
That’s defense acquisition in laymen terms.
This Raytheon mouthpiece strikes again.
Cool pic - where are the vertical stabs?
B-2 Spirit has no vertical stabilizers either. Computer controlled special flaps instead, I think.
