Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamanei, broke his silence on Monday hours after Iran’s attack on a U.S. base in Qatar.

He posted a photo of a burning American flag in an area being bombarded by aerial attacks.

“We did not attack anyone. And we do not accept anyone’s attack. And we will not surrender to anyone’s attack; This is the logic of the Iranian nation,” he said on X:

There are rumors swirling now that the Grand Ayatollah has been incommunicado for some time (obviously they have to be taken with several grains of salt in the modern information warfare age!). Given the way the Israelis shifted to going after regime bigwigs in the past 24 hours, the leaked audio of the Israelis telling top IRGC to get out or else, plus the abrupt ceasefire, I can't help but wonder if this tweet is posthumous, or at least delivered while he's already in Russia etc.

And, not strictly related to the above per-se: does anyone really believe an 86 year old Islamist is actually posting on twitter..? This is just some enthusiastic 20-something IRGC intern posting what they're told, just like their threat of historic retaliation a couple nights ago that never materialized. I would bet money that whoever is running this account isn't even physically in Iran, the better to make the PR operation resilient against internet shutdowns.

I think it’s becoming clear to Russia and China that we have perfected quantum sensors, gravinmeters that allow the USA to to detect all sorts of nuclear devices from a long ways away even deep in the earth and underwater. That changes everything as Russia and China just got put on notice their triad just evaporated and they are at a distinct disadvantage now. Look for perfunctory belligerent condemnations but do nothing. Iran is screwed and must sue for peace. Putin probably realizes he is in a very vulnerable spot. Watch for Russia to get a lot more reasonable about ending the Ukraine war.
