The rest of the DC setup is transparently clear. (1) Goldberg held the story until the day before a long-scheduled Senate Intelligence Committee hearing. (2) The SSCI then used the hearing to blast the heads of the Trump administration intelligence silos on the issue of “classified” information in the text messages.
♦ The next act in this well-known performance will be for Democrats to demand the release of the Signal App transcript, if it’s not classified, then there’s nothing to hide.
♦ Public pressure via narrative drum-pounding will continue to increase, until the chat messages are released to congress. [Keep in mind, Jeffrey Goldberg likely already has them.]
♦ Everyone in the chat group will then be told they must recuse themselves from internal silo determinations as to the classified status of the conversation. More public pressure will be generated to achieve this “position of conflict” demand.
♦ The Intelligence Community, without the heads of the silos – likely leveraging the internal investigative agents of the FBI (INSD), will then say the content of the chat was indeed classified, TSCI level. There will be weeks and months of leaks to the media as each granular detail is discussed ad infinitum.
♦ The cabinet members will then face the drumbeat of resignation demands, and/or useful impeachment fodder for ‘lying to congress’ during today’s Senate Select Committee on Intelligence testimony.
At least that should be the anticipated approach by the “Seven Ways from Sunday” group, who operate to defend the interests of the Intelligence Community from agency heads like those who were on the Signal App chat group.
We’ve all watched this play before.

It is not a scandal and not a “gate.” Unless it can be named “Goldberg-gate” or “Atlantic blabbergate.”

Pls see my #32. While this may have been a relatively minor event in some respects, the problem now is one more screw up like this can spell big trouble for the administration; you can be sure that behind the scenes Trump is not happy about this. Anything related to leaks of national security info is potentially explosive stuff.
Only one “journalist” is accidentally added, and just happens to be a left-wing hack from a pitifully leftist magazine, who then promptly beats a path to CNN to spill the beans?
Yeah, I smell a ‘Rat.
Just from digging around, it looks like there’s no such thing as a “usual” Signal mailing list, especially not for the DoD or intel agencies—Signal isn’t authorized for official use, and groups (i.e., recipients) are manually created.
So if someone like Goldberg appeared as a recipient, it was either deliberate, manipulated, or part of a rogue, off-the-record channel.
Either way, it’s not standard—it’s strategic.
Accidently? Is the staffer still employed?
Staffer accidentally? Or Dem infiltrator.
“If Goldberg had an ounce of common sense he would have never revealed any of this.”
He did his job as an emissary of the deep state. Everything went according to plan, and he revealed it exactly when he was scheduled to do it.
“I don’t know this—I’d have to be in the national security loop to make that claim.”
***********
Well, you stated “They ID’d a mole working for Waltz” which is pretty declarative so it sounded like you knew something. I just took what you said literally.
I wasn’t intending to be snarky.
But thanks for your thoughts on the issue. A lot here to speculate on.
Regards.
“anyone on that chat had better know who’s on it before you chime in.”
If someone had entered the chat surreptitiously, i.e., hacked in, it’s doubtful that others in the chat were aware.
“ If Goldberg had an ounce of common sense he would have never revealed any of this.”
They gave away they have a mole pretty early.
Who was the staffer?
How would he possibly have the contact for a Democrat operative “reporter” from a hostile media outlet to “accidentally” add?
My guess is this is subterfuge. Too easy. They have more moles. Let one get exposed early on.
But even if it was on their devices, that doesn’t automatically mean it was okay for anything beyond the most sensitive stuff. Government rules—especially for DoD or national security—require specific authorization for apps like Signal, and it’s banned for classified or operational details like military strikes.
Pre-installation could imply limited approval for basic comms, like scheduling, but using it for war plans is way outside that scope. It’s more likely they chose it deliberately, not just because it was there.
Good chance you’re right. Nancy’s famous wrap-up smear.
YES!
It is odd that of all people, Goldberg happens to be the one added, however I believe that this is being handled behind the scenes. We will likely never know the cause or effect , until released by a future president in 50 years.
My bad on that.
I can get a little carried away when I'm chasing a mystery down a rabbit hole.:-)
I’m thinking this as well considering all of the leaks Trump had in his first term, and make no mistake, there are probably some Swamp critters who are still embedded within the president’s team!
All of that is true.
But ... will the MSM let it go? I don’t think so. I think it was fabricated precisely to make it a big deal in the media.
“Why have a left wing journalist on your contacts”
Do you REALLY think that happened? There was no journalist on Waltz’s contact list. Someone let the TDS guy into the chat through a cyber back door, without the participants’ knowledge.
